I'm just curious, are there any main skills in the game that are especially strong or especially weak for bashing?
Xenthos2006-01-20 13:55:13
Cosmicfire == weak.
Moonburst / Nightkiss == strong.
Most others == in between to some extent or another.

I'd've said Cosmicfire = Weak, Mage Staff = strong, most others are inbetween.
Mages/Druids > Warriors > Wiccans > Guardians, generally. (If you ignore that wiccans get nymph.)

Celestine Guardians do get a skill that allows them to just slaughter the undead.. they arent so useless if youre going after Ur'Dead I guess, or..I dont know, maybe Rowenna, Brennan and their circle of skeletons. Zombies too I guess, and raiding Ankrag or something. Though, I think we can all easily agree that Cosmicfire sucks, even for a novice level and it doesnt get better till youve near transed the damn thing stupid black rats and dieing in two hits..

So wrong. Moonburst / Nightkiss > warriors NPC damage-wise. At least, faeling strength warriors.
Mages/druids do lots of damage as well when hunting, but I believe that the two wiccan trans attack skills are a bit stronger.

Pretty sure staff is stronger than moonburst. And faeling strength, I don't know, but Aslaran strength (which isn't exactly the highest) is a fair amount better than furrikin int (which is about average, and faster than normal.)
So warriors are just a little better than wiccans. They're also tankier (mages are less tanky.)
Athana2006-01-20 22:12:35
blast for those who don't have staff yet is amazing! kill black rats in one hit!
Penelope2006-01-20 22:24:43
I get bored and walk through Glomdoring jabbing weevils to death with my dagger sometimes. Just seems overkill to me to Nightkiss them.
Richter2006-01-20 23:36:01
Get two fast hammers, and go warrior. 4-6k health (I can get up to 10k if I tried), and the speedyness of the hammers means you get more hits in, which means more critical hits. When you get to a higher level, you don't need to hit hard normally, because you're getting far more critical hits. So, my 80 damage hammers are better than my 180/200 damage flail/mace because I can get far more critical (x2 damage, x4, x8, etc).

If you did the same damage over time without crits, you would also do the same with crits...
Serrin2006-01-21 10:26:04
That would be true Ciaran, provided that you were fighting something with like 6 million hitpoints.
The truth of it tho is that the more frequent crits does = more creatures killed in a shorter amount of time.
That and weapon damage doesn't affect damage over time nearly as much as your strength + frequency of hits does when you're bashing.

I was talking about if you did the same damage with a broadsword as your rapier over time without crits, you would hunt just as fast with them... Not saying that speed isn't better, just saying that criticals aren't a factor...

First of all I want to say that I am leaning toward knighthood with a specialization in pureblade.
1.) Does everyone with the same Prime Skill (not specialization) have the same bashing skill? Does anyone learn a bashing skill in their specialization? How does that work with knights (since they all have different weapons)
2.) Would it be more profitable to go human for the Exp. bonus or Orclach for the native weapon/resistences bonuses?
3.) Is there anyplace with a pretty complete skill listing? The only skill lists I've seen so far have been on the MSN group.
4.) Do any of the cities/communes have restrictions on what you can bash?
5.) Are any of the trade skills profitable earlier on in the skill? Useful to yourself early in the skill? Is there a big market for all the different products (I'm looking at poisons in particular).
6.) What exactly does the skill hunting/tracking do?
Thanks for the help.

If you are speaking about knighthood skillset then you haev two equal skills for bashing. Jab and swing. Also raze can be useful for blademasters and bonecrashers. Axelords and purebladers have different skill, raze and hit on one, Dont remeber name right now.
2.)Â Would it be more profitable to go human for the Exp. bonus or Orclach for the native weapon/resistences bonuses?
I would stay as Orclach until you reach level around 70-80 then go human for exp boost and then your stats as uhman wont be bad.
3.) Is there anyplace with a pretty complete skill listing? The only skill lists I've seen so far have been on the MSN group.
Skill lists arent published, but almoust all guilds have GHELP files with their (if not all) skillsets.
4.)Â Do any of the cities/communes have restrictions on what you can bash?
I belive that every guild/city/commune haev some restroctions on what not bash. I think that Celest have longest list.Â
5.) Are any of the trade skills profitable earlier on in the skill? Useful to yourself early in the skill? Is there a big market for all the different products (I'm looking at poisons in particular).
If you are warrior then go for herbs. More time you spend on harvesting then more herbs you can sale and you can harvest useful herbs from beginign. More herbs you learned mroe types of herbs you can harvest.
To earn good gold on Forging you need to be almoust trans. Poisonist could be not bad choice too as it seems to be lack of them in those days.
6.)Â What exactly does the skill hunting/tracking do?
Thanks to hunting skills you can rustle cows, mimic animals, catch snakes, make campfires and few more. And later you specializate in tracking. You will get dog/qolf to assist you, he can track people/items/mobiles, deliver items and hinder opponent in fight. You can also can set up traps, from dart traps with poisons to snake pits.
With tracking you also get few useful skills that you would get from Environment: like diving and climbing on trees.
Thanks for the help.

That isn't true, Shryke.
Lets say you do 100 dmg with your rapier, but 200 with your broadsword. Your rapier attacks once per 2 seconds, the broadsword once per 4 seconds (this is just for simplicity's sake)
Now, you're doing the same damage over time, true, but once criticals are factored in, everything changes.
If something has 800 hp, its going to take either 8 rapier attacks or 4 broad attacks to kill it, which comes out at the same ammount of time spent, however, if you land an 8x critical, a single attack from either the rapier OR the broad is going to kill it. So the faster speed on the rapier allows you to kill more creatures, because that extra 800 dmg the Broadsword did doesn't carry over to the next mob, its simply wasted.
That's why crits are a factor, and why rapiers are far superior to broads when it comes to bashing.

Does that mean katana is better than the other 2h swords for bashing?

Yup.
Shryke2006-01-22 03:45:46
Oooer, didn't think of that.. Makes sense, but really it's hardly a factor, seeing as 8x crits don't come about much, and generally your not gonna kill something that rapidly either.. But it is mildly different..

Actually, I get 4x and 8x pretty often. The higher your level, the better your crit rate.
Shryke2006-01-22 03:48:31
Ah, well I haven't experienced such high levels, dunno how often you instakill a creature though.. yaknow?
