Yeaaah... what a horrible game. Except I don't think you can even call it a game, because that implies that it, in theory, has some kind of point. Which it doesn't. There are no objectives; you're just a deer and you wander around the forest, and press buttons to jump/drink/rub your antlers on a tree. Veonira is convinced that there has to be a mate button somewhere but I didn't see one in the short time I could stand to play the "game". (I wouldn't be that surprised if there was one though.)

Well unfortunately I was reading and you really can only be male, but I mean, maybe they are gay deer, they should still be able to mount each other.

That looks like... such the... intriguing game...

The graphics engine looks pretty awesome for something that's free.
At least, I think it does. From the screenshots. I have a Mac, so I can't play it.
Is this a technology demo, or just a really well-executed parody game that is intended to be a psychosocial commentary on the inane, repetitive nature of many modern MMORPG games and the addictive behavior of the people who play them, despite said inanity and repetitiveness?

You read too much into it. It's just a furry version of graphic chat rooms.
Unknown2006-01-22 21:49:31
Ooh, furry chat.
Xavius2006-01-23 03:02:23
Does it have a chat function? The way I interpreted the website (I haven't actually played it) is that it's the interactive equivalent of the CD recordings of babbling brooks and singing birds. They have some pseudopolitical rant about how our culture is too competitive and can't enjoy simple, quiet pleasures anymore on the "About" page.
Veonira2006-01-23 03:13:16
You chat with body language.

The quiet, simple pleasure of rubbing against trees and making out with male deer...

Reading the about page, I realized that this is the MMORPG equivalent of an arthouse film. It just makes me hate pretentious, 'arty' people even more.
Unknown2006-01-23 04:06:37
Doesn't change the fact that the graphics engine pwns for something that's free.

Nah, lots of arthouse films are edgy and progressive and stuff. They're pretty much everything except violent. Of course, what's an MMORPG without a healthy dose of violence and world domination?
Unknown2006-01-23 14:56:45
Utterly bizarre.

QUOTE(Weird non-game designers)
So if you're an avid gamer, there's a big chance that The Endless Forest is not for you. It is not designed to offer any challenges that need to be overcome, or points that can be scored. It's is much more freeform than that. It's probably a little bit like a nice painting. You can stare at it for hours a keep discovering new things. And best of all, you can be part of the picture and new things can appear at any time.

that sounds a bit like lusternia, that's not really any point to it, is there? people make their own goals. except it sounds like it's rather lacking goals than having a choice of many to make.
