The Christmas Reunion

To begin with, this story (obviously) takes place in Vermont. East coast, etc. etc.

Okay- woman my mother works with has two Jack Russell terriers... they're essentially her "babies," she brings pictures of them to every meeting to oo and aah over during breaks and such.

So she really dotes on her two puppies. One of them, Seamus, is 13 years old. Every year, Christmas eve, they have a bit of a party- 80 or so people coming in / out during the evening, so the door's opening a lot, and a lot know about her fondness.

At one point in the evening, they're standing at the door, and her husband says to her, "Why is that woman walking to the door carrying Seamus?" She looks down at her side and says, "But Seamus is right here..."

The woman gets to the door, and says, "I found this dog running in circles on Route 7 (a high-traffic road in this area). I almost hit it, had to swerve out of the way... but I stopped, looked at it, and since I was already coming here anyways and knew you liked Jack Russells, I brought it with me."

This dog has no collar, nothing... they can't call to have it picked up because it's Christmas Eve. So it comes in, and it immediately bonds with her two dogs and all of the guests. It's running around with them.

As the evening wears down, the party draws to a close, and her two dogs go up to bed. This third one goes up with them, cuddling down in their doggy bed (replete with pillow) with them as if it was his own and it was completely natural to sleep with the other two.

She ends up setting a third stocking for the new puppy, as there already were ones set up for her other two, and the next morning they all enjoy Christmas together. They try calling to see if anyone's reported a missing dog, but nobody has.

A few days later, she's completely bonded with this new puppy, she wants to keep it, loves it like her other two dogs. Her husband is saying, "Well... we really should call, one more time," and eventually they do even though she's protesting.
The dispatcher says, "Well, I actually did get a call about a missing dog just a few minutes ago..." She's obviously upset at this point, but they get in touch with the other owner, who turns out to be a lady from Colorado.

This woman comes to the house, and they end up talking... she was from Colorado in Vermont on a vacation to be with her family, and had brought her dog with her. It escaped somehow, and she was despairing of ever seeing him again... a tearful reunion when they got together. Eventually they got to talking about dog ages.

This other dog was also 13, just like Seamus. They spoke a bit more about breeders and where the dogs were from. Eventually, they realized that they were both from the same litter... two puppies, thirteen years separated, brought back together by chance on Christmas Eve.

She had gotten the puppy from a friend 13 years before who brought it from Vermont. And for Christmas they were together again.
