I was talking to some of my (non mudding) friends about various geeky things one day, and the subject of books came up (big suprise). Someone commented on how they liked Raymond E. Feist, so I mentioned that IRE was planning to make a mud based on his work. They got complete fanatic about it, so I said I would try to find out what I could.
Estarra or someone here said that it was put on hold for an indefinite ammount of time. Afterwards, Matt talked about its announcement in the IRE newsleter.
So, I guess the question is: Whats the deal? Is it announced, but not being developed? Is it being developed as we speak? Has it been cancled?
Theres no information on the IRE portal site - I supposed it might be that way for a reason. However, I would like to learn what I can about it.
Thank you very much.

Matt was looking for a new artist.. I wonder if the MUD aspect of the books has been put on hold, and instead they are making a MMPORG type thing for it, based on the credit business model. (Much better than the monthly business model if you ask me)

From what I know, it's on development (comments from Sarapis in forums)
Of course, it could also be stopped but everybody saying is on development just to keep public attention active
I read the first book, so far is quite... dissapointing. Must read the second one and decide if it's me or it's really 15-years-old-fantasy-book made by mixing all the clasic topics of fantasy into a single book.

Part of the appeal of Magician, is that Feist didn't know about how to write the genre. So you have a horde of main characters and it doesn't blindly follow generic fantasy conventions like a lot of other writers do.

Matts post advertising for a MUD Builder for Midkemia only a week old. Here
I think the advert for the Concept Artist is for an entirely different as yet undisclosed project.

Maybe my problem was with Magician:Aprentice then:
- Heroes getting lost, being rescued by dangerous but miracolous creature that happens to give them a treasure and die afterwards. What a lucky guy, mind you.
- OMG! I don't know what to do with my life! Oh, wait, that old guy over there nobody likes and I meet by sheer luck and was afraid off takes me as aprentice. OHH I have superweirdpowers that no other mage has!
- Speaking about that treasure, omg, it's magic!!
- Oh yeah, she's the princess. And it's exactly like all other topical wild fantasy princeses (Belgarath Cronicles anybody?) and behaves like any other princess.
And quite a few other topical situations, based on the hero being in the right place at the right time and finding the right people so he can continue being the hero.
Does the second one get any better?

Midkemia is being developed. It's just taking a while because they decided to scrap most of the Achaea base the other IRE games have started with.

Really? Darn.

Darn? I don't think so. I simply can't imagine Midkemia MUD with normal IRE mechanics. Or maybe I can:
(Krondor) Locklear says, "OMG what curs silverthrn poison??!"
(Krondor) Arutha says, "Silverthorn berry u n00b!"
(Krondor) Locklear says, "Kthx."
(Krondor) Pug says, "Dude, only 20 credits more and I'm trans in blackrobe magic! LOLOLOL."
Please don't kill me.

Shiri2006-01-26 01:08:29
I never read the midkemia books, but I'm not used to changes in the systeeem!
