Ok, so I noticed a few of you have MapleStory on your computer.

Joli asked a question on why it wasn't working, so I installed it to see if I could find out...
I'm sure others did the same and ended up playing it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAGANEV!

Maple Story was my baby before I tried Aetolia, and moved to Lusternia, where of course I now reside. I LOVE MS, I just wish the community was a bit more.. mature.
Yay for Clerics! Meso makin' machines, they are. However, a friend offered me forty dollars for the char, and, being bored, I sold my level 48 Cleric off and bought some pizza - Hooray for pure profit.
Anyway, MapleStory is a completely free, MMORPG Sidescroller, which you can download from www.MapleGlobal.com . It was originally a korean game, but has since been translated and refined so that we over here can play it too. It features four main archetypes: Thieves, Warriors, Mages and Bowmen. Each going into certain specializations depending on the weapons you prefer to use. The catch is, the level gaining is much harder there - You can get past level 100, and in fact, should eventually become as high as 170 or so to fight some of the harder monsters. Things can get really, really tedious in the mid-later levels, until you hit 60 and can get into the higher areas. The only problem though, is KSing. A distinct lack of Pk means that people who are so inclined to, and are higher leveled than you, can come into your area and just start taking your kills, thus hampering your experience gaining considerably. They adopted a "fame" system to help discourage this, but it can only do so much. All in all, the graphics are awesome, and the backgrounds can be downright beautiful. It's a really fun, simple to learn and easy to play game with tons of potential behind it, and I'd really recommend it to anyone.
Also, I've decided to remake my MapleStory craziness, and made a new character. So, if you need help in the game, myself and a number of other Lusternians who may or may not play can probably help out.

The request was for discussion! More discussion, not just a few comments.
I was Mapling before Joli posted about it, for reasons I already mentioned at that time. For whatever bad points it has, it's fun and cute and lacks the depth of interaction that Lusternia has that also brings about responsibilities and stress sometimes.
Random thought ... if we actually have several people who go Mapling, with the addition of guilds there, we should try to form a Lusternia one!
And if any of you are playing on Bera and need help getting things, I've got Elisce on there. She's now a level ... 35, I think ... ice mage. And Zenji's got a higher level mage on Bera too. Capable mage friends are good when you need to get quest items.

I'm like.. level 12 on there... I forgot my profile too, I think

I didn't play it long for a lot of reasons
1) Boring
2) Annoying people
3) Hurt my hands to keep my fingers on the same buttons all the time
4) Boring
5) 1 minute minimum loading between loading, with DSL internet
6) Random terrible lag and/or disconnecting

I never had problems with lag... unless mebbe you were playing on the Scania server, which gets ridiculous lag for having so many damned people on it. Bera's pretty moderate, and Bora is nice. Windia is just about friggin' empty, too
As for the fingers hurting, I had that same issue, and I moved around to the hotkeys to something more comfortable, it helped out a ton.
And yeah, I agree about the annoying people. There are a ton of idiots running around, but if you find the right friends to hang out with, it's really nice.
With boring, meh... mabye it just wasn't your game. Though, like I said, the leveling can get a little tedious - Which is why they've added so many quests! Hurrah for questing

I was playing the laggiest server for a while, then when I realised that it was the laggiest, I switched, and it got a good bit better, but the time between the areas just wasn't acceptable to me.
Valarien2006-02-02 03:00:11
Yeah, in that regard, sometimes it can get pretty nasty if there are a ton of people in the area you're about to go into, like say, channel one in Perion. Though, I've got a cable connection as well, and I don't have any problems. :/
Maybe it's just one of those things

I don't play for the following reason:
The ask me to use IE to access their webpage. With a little pixelated anime girl wagging her finger at me. I don't need that kind of crap; they can either make their webpage browser-agnostic, or off, as far as I care.

Damn right I am. I hate being faced with extreme stupidity with a cute, big-headed, pixelated anime girl stamped onto it.
Narsrim2006-02-02 05:27:36
I didn't realize people had preferences for stupidity.
Valarien2006-02-02 13:57:16
Of course they do! It's Veri, Veri has a preference for EVERYTHING
Gaetele2006-02-02 22:05:15
I play on Windia. I'm so left-out.
I'll make a Bera character if we can get a Lusternia guild running, though.
Give me mesos please

Seriously, stupidity with a cute pixelated anime girl wagging a finger at me is worse than plain stupidity.
Peeka2006-02-03 15:58:11
That's how I feel about stupidity with a big oaf patting you on the head. It's just worse.
Plus, it's not that hard to make it cross platform. I just took a look at their website and really, it's nothing to get their panties in a knot over.
