Ok, I'm trying to learn about ways to effectivly use dreamweaving in combat situations (both while dreamwalking and while awake), and any advice would be helpful.

Also, I would like some info on ways to combat dreamweavers, to see what it's like from someone else's perspective, and if anyone could offer some advice about that as well, that would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

If you're dreamwalking, there are two ways of killing someone. In both cases you should void first so that they are stupid, and might not trigger-wake or trigger-reinsomniac.

The first way is to drowse/deepsleep them to exhaustion, then start channelling mana. If they sip it back, you can't do much. If they don't, you can wait until they are under half mana (use evaluate) and then spam eternalsleep until they next collapse from exhaustion.

The second way is for less knowledgeable characters, which involves getting them asleep and using nightmare until they have no health left. This is harder because unless they know nothing about how to stay awake, you have to stack stupidity and things like narcolepsy/epilepsy to hinder them when they try to reactivate anti-sleep defences. It is also a psychic attack that quite a few races have resistance to.

Defending against dreamweavers isn't too hard. If you're worried, try climbing into trees or flying (I think burrowing would work too) to see if they are linked. If the attacks stop, stay there... they can't get up by themselves. If they don't, the dreamweaver is linked to you and will follow. This isn't a problem. Shield first, make sure you have insomnia and kafe up, and watch your health and mana. Trigger yourself to wake up, stand, and put insomnia back up if you fall asleep. The dreamweaver won't be able to do anything. Keep diagnosing too to watch for stupidity, which can be afflicted invisibly.

Finally, call for violeters/kethers to help you. Most dreambodies won't be able to stick around against one violeter, let alone two or three.

Elryn seems to know a bit, she's fairly good at it.
Narsrim2006-02-07 05:37:37
Elryn is a guy.

You find great pleasure in using my lack of clarity on others' genders against me, don't you.

Since when was ignorance an excuse?

It's always worked for me.

Elryn, shame on you for forgetting the best dreamweaving skill of them all: Possess.

Erm, what would you use it for?

Yes, it does have uses for getting kills (though the method for doing so with it relies partially on the opponent).
Unknown2006-02-15 01:10:02
blink.gif It does?

You can't force someone to attack a mobile (or so I've been told), you can't force heartstop, you can't force them to cross any area boundary, and when your 10 seconds are over, you have 0 power for eternal sleep.

You could conceivably make them sip poisons, but there is often little chance they have handy open vials on them, or that there is some combination of sips which you can force in the available time that will be terribly conducive towards a kill.

Ding ding ding!

Now, think: which poisons could concievably kill someone? What other things could you make them use to help incapacitate them? It just requires a bit of preparation.

EDIT: I'm assuming that this still works, of course... it's been a while since I had Dreamweaving. It worked when I had it, though.

The only use for possess is to grief apparently.... (shush, I know)

Heh, definitely not true. It's certainly very good for that... but it also does a variety of other things.

Shamarah killed me in a FFA once with possess. He gave me a vial of absinthe and a vial of crotamine. He made me sip crotamine a bunch and then obliterated me with absinthe.

When it ended, I tried to sip antidote like 37 times in a row and it failed... and then I died.

My experiences of possess were that it was so short lived.. I never actually had time to make anyone do anything... but I guess sipping absinthe doesn't require balance.. so if you spammed it cunningly enough..

This is what I was referring to. In fact, I think I still have the two aliases I used for it.

Are you sure that isn't exploiting something that isn't supposed to work?

I mean, I thought everything else you did took balance... standing, readnews, even checking AB.
Ethelon2006-02-16 19:11:46
it's not exploting anything, only problem is for use in real combat....that is very expensive to pull off.
