Hi everyone, I'm new to the board. Anyway, I'm thinking about creating a character in the Nihilists, and was wondering whether I should choose Tarot or go with Hexes if I want to engage in PvP. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
Torak2006-02-12 00:31:18
Tarot, no contest. Hexes don't compliment our class really, not to mention tarot has alot of useful utility and healing cards. I can give you a full blown deal sometime if you want, but forums annoy me.

Yeah, I've been pondering going Nihilist for sometime now, thought about mugwump with hexes, or aslaran with tarot.

Tarot has very nice utility. Hexes are neat in concept, but all they do is afflictions. Absolutely zero utility.

(It'd be nice if Wiccans had some utility in their tertiary skill choice. Healing and Hexes have none.)

Healing's sorta good for bashing things that give afflictions. mellow.gif

So are herbs and potions. It's not utility so much as just healing that doesn't cost you money.

I want Hermit tarot. Spores aren't even half as useful in general (outside of combat).

Astrology to an extent

I wish Guardians in general had more useful skills. Tarot is only good for starting off, as enigma and fool wear off fast, empress is extremely hard to use, lovers/judge/moon are only useful if masked, and warrior is just stupid. Hexes aren't that great, due to because Nihilists/Celestines need power to kill, and whammy and doublewhammy both take power, and a regular hex throw is easy to cure. Only moondancers seem to find a good way to use hexes, as they can still use aeon without needing something like tarot, which Celestines/Nihilists need in order to give aeon. Healing would be useful if bedevil gave all afflictions to the enemy for a cost of 5 power, and some new defenses skills in healing. I don't know enough about the astrology skillset to talk about it but others say its not as great as tarot/hexes/healing either. mellow.gif

Completely forgot about Astrology.

sleep.gif Seriously?

Astrology is pretty good utility, I like it. And spores are pretty nice, what are you talking about!? (Only thing is I can't use them to get to the gorgog caves anymore because some smelly citydweller always taints/floods it and I don't feel like bothering druids all the time. sad.gif)

EDIT: And Thoros, astrology is better than healing, I find. Just not as good as hexes/tarot.

Almost all of Vesucia is forest. Learn how to get there!

Yeah, but then I have to wander around in the stupid bay trying to find the right island, and the right entrance.

Yeah I'm lazy. Shh. tongue.gif

Outside of combat, Hermit is vastly superior to Spores. I've used both, and I can't see how it's even close. Spores take power and forest, Hermit requires an empty room. If you try to hermit in to bash, and it's not empty, chances are it's better to try somewhere else anyway.

There are some interesting Nihilist combos with hexes.

For example, ectoplasm/double whammy scabies/epilepsy/crucify.

That could work nicely, especially if you get a warrior off balance after a cleave or whatever with the ecto. One could focus mind away the epilepsy while crucified (if it works?). It could work nicely but with your demon you can give scabies-epilepsy on a combo so having the hexes there wouldn't really help you out much, not nearly as much as having aeon on there while they are curcified.

That's easy enough. Impatience is always focused off first. Once you have them stuck, you can layer on afflictions rather quickly.

i think i was the first nihilist who transed hexes (actually, think eiru was) , and let me tell yeh, it is not worth it. hexes are good for a midlevel fighter who can get the lock via investing anorexia with your demon and hexing up the competition with paralyse, impatience, vapors, asthma etc - but when i comes right down to it, hexes are just NOT viable with nihilists, sadly. Tarot is the way to go. It has much versatility, and costs less overall power. ( doublewhammy twice: 4 power, repeat as many times as possible to hinder your opponent properly, ugh, yeah right. )

I am mugwump, too! Hexes just do NOT work at ALL with the Nihilist skillset. Tarot > Hexes gg
Yrael2006-03-04 04:49:42
Only take hexes if you've got a high eq race. I do fairly well with them, masked afflictions are lovely. Plus it's a lot cheaper than bloody tarot.
Unknown2006-03-04 05:56:55
Psh.
Yrael.

Your going to find out the true pain soon as a nihilist hexer.

focus mind.

massive power loss.

prove me wrong.
