Pilot Camouflage

Ok, this is starting to piss me off. Someone comes to the door, I'm in the middle of aetherspace. I'm at least 10 minutes away from any dock. What do I do? I race to the door, try and get rid of them, and race back... but I'm dead because of the spawned creatures that take around 5 seconds to converge on a stationary ship.

This really isn't very fun. Especially now that I have a 20 minute voyage just to get back to where I was mapping. dry.gif

Anyway, how about this for a common aethercraft skill:

QUOTE

Camouflage Conceal your algontherine in the vastness of aetherspace.

Syntax: PILOT CAMOUFLAGE
Ship Power: 0
While drifting in empty aetherspace, you may position your craft within a nearby cloud and command your algontherine to quiet all its signals, effectively making you invisible to nearby creatures of the deep. You must be at full hull strength to complete this maneuvre, and any damaged modules will disrupt the stealth of your vessel. Other algontherine will not be fooled by this simple camouflage.

This is an OOC concession, but masked in enough IC explanation to be viable. It's essentially a 'pause button'.

As a sidenote, this is a hilarious message:

Avaerin, the Living Forestship implodes and you die.

or you could rig up an elaborate trapdoor mechanism hooked up to your doorbell, so that when someone rings it, they get dropped into the hole under the welcome mat

This sounds like the better idea, but it's a bit complicated. Elryn's has the advantage that I would be much more willing to actually try out a 2 room ship with no empath grid or turrets if I didn't have to run like hell the whole time.

Alternatively, I've started using this script to deal with slight afk moments:

CODE

#ALIAS evade {#trigger {^The command chair whirrs quietly, ready to be used once again.} {#add edir 1;#if (@edir > 8) {#var edir 1};pilot steer %db( @directions, @edir)};#var edir 1;pilot steer %db( @directions, @edir)} "Aetherships"
#ALIAS evadeoff {#untrigger {^The command chair whirrs quietly, ready to be used once again.}} "Aetherships"
#VAR directions {1east2southeast3south4southwest5west6northwest7north8northeast} {_nodef} "Aetherships"
#VAR edir {1} {_nodef} "Aetherships"

But it isn't always fast enough. It also functions as essentially a horde-generator. In a few minutes, you have left around 20-30 creatures behind.

Heh. I'm going to BE a horde generator, since I can't afford a turret. halo.gif

Hehe, its not so bad cause your ship will -zoom-. Even with 52 rooms, I can easily outpace enemies as long as I don't stop.

Besides, I don't know how many aetherships actually try killing all the monsters they generate. I started, but realized that there wasn't much point, both in terms of giving essentially no experience to the crew, and not really making much difference... there's always going to be more than you can take out at once.

Plus I don't like trapping an unfortunate crew on board when I go mapping, so I don't usually work with a turret or empath either, heh. wink.gif

I really want to see how fast a one room ship with a wheel goes.

Your speed will be limited (and determined) by the lag on your connection to Lusternia.

I'm going to code in a set of 'evasion manuveurs' that move me automatically in various ways. When I send in a pilot command, it stops the evasion long enough to execute the command, then continue when I get balance again biggrin.gif

I like the idea. I got called away for a second by the parents, who don't understand why I freak out when they demand my attention, and frankly don't care. Even if you log out, your ship blows up.

I agree entirely with this idea. And what about cloaking devices (You don't have to call them that, of course) For ships? They'd cost gold (Quite a lot) and, when placed on a room, would make your ship invisible to to other ships (But not to Aetheric creatures).

They exist, they're called cloaking devices, and cost 400 credits.

500, isn't it? Please don't tell me I paid more than its worth. unsure.gif

Oh, and thanks for reminding me... I think there is a bug where only the owner can use the cloaking cube. I have to investigate and report it.

400, 500, it's all the same in the grand scheme of things.
