Hi guys,

There was a little one-page section of the most recent Gygax game, Lejendary Adventure, in the "GM's book" that was labeled "RACIAL EPITHETS FOR GAME WORLD RACES". There were complimentary and derogatory. Derogatory would be akin to real-world racial slurs, while complimentary good nick-names. I was thinking about this, since Lusternia has its own races.

Below are a few examples from that book. I just picked a few from the races that would match ours.



Now, these types more or less fit, Orclach replacing Orc, some of the Elf could apply to faelings as well, but I was trying to come up with some original ones for the original races of Lusterina, for instance.

Derogatory

Furrikin: Shedder, Flea-fur, Yiffer.
Lucidian: Crack-brain, Stiffer, Rockhead
Mugwup: Wartskin, Slimeskin, Fly-eater

Complimentary

Aslaran: Proud Pridemaster, Greatfur
Trill: Sky soarer, Powerful Plume

So, this could be fun. I'd try to ask this in game, but asking IC what names races don't like are a good way to get killed. So, you guys got any ideas?

Aslaran: Furball

Complimentary

Aslaran: Murphy

Furball works for furrikin. Yiffer is a real-world theme that doesn't have a place in Lusternia. As for the rest...

Humans: Outsiders, Sons/Daughters of the Nameless One.
Merians: Fishhead, fishbreath, fishface, squid-eater. A fat merian would be a pufferfish.
Viscanti: Mongrels, freaks, abominations.

Lucidian: Quartzling

Eyod's sisters tend to refer to him as such, affectionately. But coming from someone else, it'd probably be an insult as the term's supposed to refer to a fairly young lucidian (child) and he's not quite that anymore.

I have a few.. mostly downright racist.

Merian: Fish, food
Mugwump: frog boy
Faeling: butterflies (used to compliment and insult. Havn't used it yet)
Tril: half-angel (To Jac: Angel = OOC 'devil', so it's a major insult. Havn't used)
Furrikin: furries (netural)
Human: normal, typical

Also note:

Celest: Water boys

Elfen: Greenskin, treedweller, treehugger.
Merian: Blueskin, fishman/woman, gillies. Could also work something in about their physical inadequacies.

Treehugger isn't insulting. In fact, it was my first title

Think of mine from a Magnagoran perspective.

Merian:

Bad: Chumscum (Chum being chopped up fish), flipper freak, fish head
Good: Fast Swimmer, Blue Joy.

Viscanti:

Bad: Mutant, Mutie, Twisted, Horn-Freak.
Good: Fate-Blessed, Wise Ones

Dracani:

Bad: Gasbag, Snoutie, Smokebreath, Tail-Tripper, Fire-Farter.
Good: Divine Dragon, Desert Walker

Taurian:

Bad: Bulls**ter, Leatherface, Hornhead, Cowbrain
Good: Proud Horn, Wise Bull

Gotta think of more...

Its more like here its a racial slur to be adressed as your race if youre a Elfen or Merian, or as Tainted. Players over the progress of the games life have come up with their own ways of calling something they dont like. Im not honestly one who thinks that this should be, but hey it works for RP things.

I dunno, a few people call Nejii "furball" affectionately. (Only Laysus really uses it as derogatory.)

Yeah, but that sounds kind of thick as well. Derogatory words should have some kind of ring to them at least.

I already kind of do this.

I always called Daganev "bear" when he was a Tae'dae, still do sometimes. Merians are fish heads, and I think calling a dracnari gasbag would be hilarious.

I can see it now:

Person X: you dirty twink!
Person Y (Elfen): Sexual harassment!

What about organizational epithets? I know I use them quite frequently, rather than race.
