No one in America has pancake day? Why not? I would -swear- that it's a Christian thing...someone has to know about it, even if Daevos/Lyco/Airees/Yukari don't. blink.gif

Ya, they didn't know what that was either.

Never heard of it, and according to most sites I found through Google it seems to be an overseas thing.

I just remember how exciting it was to get to go down into the tuckshop and help make them! Ah, the joys of childhood.

I just remember having to unstick my brother's pancake from the ceiling 'cause he was too enthusiastic with the frying pan. grrr.gif

Never heard of it either. Crazy British
Shiri2006-02-19 06:54:53
But Elryn's Aussie and he knows it! You guys are just confused.

Apparently (i.e according to Lyco) you guys don't have Mournday Thursday either.

And HOW many differences do the Aussies and British have again? ninja.gif

(Please don't get technical. I'm just being a goof and will not refute any long posts full of differences I'm not interested in at this time. halo.gif)

Aussies are the ones that the British got rid of. Or something like that. Something I say is going to get me in trouble some day. Again. *sigh*

Well, if its Shrove Tuesday, we have that, though I can't remember what it actually is...
Shiri2006-02-19 10:05:25
It's one of the days in the week before Easter. (I think. ninja.gif)

Pancake Day is the day before Ash Wednesday, which is the start of Lent. Shrove Tuesday derived its name from the word 'shriving', which was to give up food, at the time. However, the Christians did not wish to be wasteful, so they would use all the things that would rot and go off in the 40 days of Lent, such as fats, milk, eggs, fish, and meats.

Hmm... in here, the last Thursday before Lent is called like... Greasy Thursday if that's the right word. And it's mostly about doughnuts.

A holiday... dedicated to pancakes... whut.gif

Not that it's necessarily a bad thing (yum.gif) but it's very weird.
