Aemotes are a new class of emote able to be constructed by the Divine. They are unique from regular emotes in that a flag is set on them such that they can only be used in aetherwave communications. An example is provided:

> act heh
> (Celest) Your laughter resonates across the aether.

> (Celest) Rhysus's laughter resonates across the aether.

Much nicer than the *lol* I see bandied about, and a relatively eloquent solution to a pet peeve held by many players for the 7+ years I've been playing these games.

Is this an idea, or has it happened? I'm still at work...

I think that the mere fact that Richter thought it had really happened means that he approves.

So do I, for that matter.
Acrune2006-02-24 22:24:25
This has been brought up a lot. Maybe if we keep posting about it, it'll happen!
Verithrax2006-02-24 22:27:29
Love this idea.

(Serenwilde) Verithrax snickers quietly through the aetherwave.
(Serenwilde) Verithrax's lamenting sigh crosses the aether.
(Serenwilde) Lisaera's piercing scream sears the aetherwave.
Acrune2006-02-24 22:28:33
It would give a lot more personality to the channels.
Manjanaia2006-02-24 22:28:51
There must be something stopping them implementing because it seems so harmless and widely wanted.

act omg
(Serenwilde) Munsia's horrified gasp suddenly fills your mind.
Acrune2006-02-24 22:29:13
Not sure what though...

Edit: was to manjanaia

act slap Halamir

(Serenwilde) The sounds of Halamir getting the slaps of his life echo through the aetherwave.

I always hit the "view new posts" button and don't pay attention to what section things are in. The only time I pay attention to what category a post is in is if I post something myself.

Anyway.

It's a good idea. It takes away people's excuses for using smileys over channels.

See my topic for other neat emote ideas. wink.gif

One thing I could think of is that it could be very spammy.

(Celest): Person 1 says, "jokeblablabla"
(Celest): Person 2's laughter resonates across the aether.
(Celest): Person 3's laughter resonates across the aether.
(Celest): Person 4's laughter resonates across the aether.
(Celest): Person 5's laughter resonates across the aether.
(Celest): Person 6's laughter resonates across the aether.
(Celest): Person 7's laughter resonates across the aether.
(Celest): Person 8's laughter resonates across the aether.

EDIT: Numbers added, people didn't get me.

That'd be retarded. I hope I don't have to explain in detail why...
Rhysus2006-02-24 23:17:17
How is that at all different from any other thing said on a channel? Did you even think when you posted that? *scratch*

Then you slap people for spamming the Aetherways! It's not much more spammy than everyone saying "Heh" or "rofl" or "omg" or whatever instead, at long as it's still just one line.

So what? You can spam talking on a channel too. I'll never understand why people make up reasons to not do something, because it could be abused exactly the same way something else can currently be.
Manjanaia2006-02-24 23:19:57
People refrain from doing that because they dislike 'lol' and they aren't sure whether *laugh* is appropriate. I think if there was a coded and accepted way of doing it, it would be more widespread. By the way, person wasn't just one person, it was meant to represent a whole bunch of different people laughing.
