This isn't really a new idea, it's just a change I wanted. Is there a way to change it so we don't have to sit at a desk to write in a personal journal?
Xavius2006-02-25 05:33:43
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that personal journals are a big part of the reason that desks were added.
Verithrax2006-02-25 05:35:19
No, letters were. I too think it's a bit weird having to actually sit in a desk to make a note on a book that's bound in hardcover. But then again, we don't have ballpoint pens in Lusternia.
Arix2006-02-25 05:35:30
I just miss being able to write things down when I think of them, instead of having to wait
Xavius2006-02-25 06:11:21
Letters were less prone to abuse. Journals were just too readily available.
Aiwendil2006-02-26 11:50:46
I remember reading somewhere on the forums a while back that journals used to be able to do that. Since you're AFK during writing, being able to write in the journal would allow you to go AFK in the middle of nowhere and everyone can't find you on WHO all of a sudden. Imagine the number of idiots who would set up raids like this.

You can do that anyway.
GHELP EDIT
Or CLHELP EDIT
They make it harder though, by only allowing you to do that on full health and mana. And if someone saw you doing it.. you could expect to be issued.

Only offical people can do that now, they should have the sence not to do it, journals are open to everyone so if you were for example getting hunted on astral run away and pop your journal and sit in safety. It is just as issuable as the edit though and requires full health and mana as well.
Stangmar2006-02-26 14:58:34
Amaru used to use his journal alot to hide, until the Divine took it away.
Soll2006-02-26 18:00:33
I did have an idea I liked for journals, actually. It would somewhat remove the use of desks and chairs, but I find it more realistic. Perhaps it could be limited to personal journals, or letters. Another limitation might be that the person has to be a Guild/Order/Clan archivist.
It would allow people like Archivists to take note of things as they're happening. Something like this:
3088h, 4318m, 4000e, 10p, 14340en, 20490w exdb---/17:55:56.484/ Write in journal on page 1 line 10 'Ongoing logs of 'A day in the life of Soll. (cont)''
You write on the first page of your journal, line 10.
3088h, 4318m, 4000e, 10p, 14340en, 20490w exdb---/17:56:11.328/
Write in journal on page 1 line 11 'Nothing happens. I am bored, always bored, and forever bored. Entry over.'
You write on the first page of your journal, line 11.
3088h, 4318m, 4000e, 10p, 14340en, 20490w exdb---/17:56:35.687/
This would be nice for logging events in an IC fashion, with the idea of 'scribbling notes as you go along'.

it would just be journals that I want to write on without desks. I don't mind using a desk to write a letter
Verithrax2006-02-26 20:03:41
It's more realistic having to use a desk. You can't write with a quill pen on a journal you're holding in your hand, trust me.

..well.. anyone can buy a clan.

Not to mention that you can't summon a quill pen out of thin air.

Actually, it would be nice to have a new item in Bookbinding called a Notepad. It allows you to jot down notes, in the same method that you write messages.
I.e. you don't get taken to a special text editor.
Ofcourse, you could always just message yourself if your worried about forgetting what you were going to write.

You have to have full health, mana, and ego to edit orghelp files.

You can carry a pen around with you, the problem is having an inkwell.
