Making Nexi more important.

I was thinking, if Murphy decided to come along and hack away at the Moonhart Mother Tree shouldn't he damage it in some way, and if I wanted to Moonburst the megalith a few times, shouldn't it likewise be hurt?

What if each Nexi had some sort of section, or part, that could be damaged, and if you "killed" it you would drain a small amount of power from the nexus, perhaps the same as a normal link for each part killed. Not sure how much hp each part should have, but I'll take suggestions from the peanut gallery. There would only really be one part, but it would instantly re-spawn, and symbolize multiple areas of damage to the Nexi.

The Moonhart Mother Tree/Master Ravenwood's parts could be a branch, or piece of bark being chipped off.
"A small branch is severed from the (Moonhart Mother Tree, Master Ravenwood Tree) and it falls to the forest floor below."

The Megalith of Doom could be chipped a little bit and a small piece of stone could fall off it.
"The Megalith rumbles softly and a chunk detaches, the pieces falls to the ground, powerless."

The Pool of Stars is surrounded by stones, some big enough to have engravings on them, perhaps those stones could be hit and small amounts of water could dribble through the cracks. wacko.gif (suggest something better if you can figure it out for this one)
"A crack forms in the stones surrounding the Pool of Stars, a small bit of water dribbles out and the luminescence of the light-blessed waters dims as it flows onto the surrounding plaza."

This would give nations more of a reason to protect their Nexi. At the moment the communes/cities had no reason to defend their nexi more then any other part of their nation, as far as game code goes.

There also might be some sort of Mini-quest that could be done by novices that would slightly improve the hp of each 'piece' in some way for a day or two IC, maybe to give them a bit of experiance/karma as well.

"You place the sacred talisman of Ellindel among the roots of the Moonhart Mother Tree and you notice a slight resonance form between the two."
"You lay the curse of Nifenhelma on the Megalith of Doom, which seems to grow in size and magnificence.”
dunno.gif

There is a lot that could be added/changed to this idea, but I think it's got some potential.

Sounds interesting but I really cant see it being used, how many people would you need to stand up for more than three seconds at the nexus against all the guards?

...but serenwilde only had 2 guards at Mother on prime last time I looked, I'd love a hard-coded reason to protect it more.

"The Pool of Stars discolours slightly as you lift up your robes and releive yourself. Aaaaah....so refreshing."

I've always wanted to chop down the moonhart.

As intresting as this idea is, it would be way unfair to places like celest. Kaervas could probably crush the pool, and no one would stop him.

If it where only possible on prime it would be cool.

I could finally do what I so long joked about IC

No he couldn't he would be wasted by guards now.

Fair enough i just figured that most places placed guards at their nexus anyway for the sake of "its our nexus we should protect it anyway," I didnt realise serenwilde didnt bother with many at the tree.

Given the right person, one. It's very depressing to log on and see it on the logs.

I wouldn't mind seeing a wider selection of quests that drain 1-2 power a hit, though.

there allread are such mechanisms in place.. I think it would really destroy the world RP if we mere mortals were somehow able to phyiscally hurt the nexus of power. I mean these nexi are suppose to be what attracted the divine to the area in the first place.

It doesn't accually have to do anything, oh well I suppose emoting this stuff is more original anyway.

What can people like daevos or kaervak actually stand up to like the 20+ guards at the nexus?

EDIT: now I think of it though daganevs kinda right we shouldn't be able to pretty much kick a nexus of power to breaking point seems a bit silly now you think about it. But quests to drain a bit like xavius said would work, your not actually hurting the nexus just nicking a bit of power.

I'm not sure about Kharvik, but I've seen Daevos get beat down by 20+ guards for a couple rounds and live. It scares me:

Daevos has 21-23 con (16 base, yellow, weathering, titan, constitution food, potential divine favor, fete), surge with a potential 13-16 intelligence (9 base, titan, lichdom, knowledge blessing, fete), racial resistances to blunt/cutting damage, high end full platemail, putrefaction, etc.

I once saw a log of him fighting mitrans. They were dealing like 1/8 the damage per round they deal to me.
ferlas2006-03-03 22:20:52
Dam, I figured anyone would just get pounded by that many guards.
Unknown2006-03-03 22:26:02

Rather than damaging them, how about something like the nexus , when hit, shoots out sparks that repells the person to anothe rroom. But the counter attack of sparks takes 2-3 power. Oh and one-third of health damage it does to you, regardless of constitution.

Check out my post in Making Raiding Count for my full views on this.

But overall, I don't like the idea of centering the fighting in the home towns. We've been establishing Home as a safe haven for novices, noncombatants, and people who just want to rest a moment or get some time to actually prepare for battle. The quests already set the idea that you try to hurt your enemies from a secondary location. I say we keep up the trend.
Vix2006-03-03 23:04:19
Killing the quest pixies of Serenwilde drains one power. Looks slightly like we're the only ones susceptible to this? (Shadows of crow aren't really mobs, no clue about Mag's quest, does killing kinsmen drain power for Celest?)
Acrune2006-03-03 23:24:44
I hate this idea. When no one is around, a couple of strong players could walk in, kill guards, and attack the nexus until they're bored of hitting the macro, and the next shift comes in.

I figured 20 or so guards/totem or statue would prevent that 99% of the time, and it would just turn into a quest for novices to keep it beefed up all the time.

And yes, my idea for this only includes the prime plane, where the Nexi have the strongest representations of themselves, it wouldn't be fair if the cities had to think about this on 4 planes and the communes only on 2.
