Making raiding count

Back to Ideas.

Ever since I started playing IRE games, the idea of "raiding" seemed kind of silly to me. Killing loyal mobs? They respawn. Killing players? They come back, and in Lusternia, conglutinate in their own territory.

With the exception of killing guards, raiding has very little lasting impact or purpose.

I propose a solution:
-Have nexii be "damageable", they will lose power when attacked (vandalized?)
-Have mini anti-organizational quests -within- the enemy territory
-Have items like the Drums of the Dead and the Flame of Glishinari mean more than what they do now, perhaps damageable, perhaps part of the anti-org quest
-Use influencing to sow the seeds of dissent within an enemy organization
-Have a cap on the damage able to be done to an organization within a set period of time (no hour long 3am raids)

I'd like to give some meaningful options to raiding. Thoughts?

- The nexi is damaged in the case of the more important mobs: fae, angels, demons, avatars, demon lords, etc.

- an anti organization quest within enemy territory already exists: the Crow/Hart quests.

- The Drums and Flame do mean more. However, the quest is currently disabled.

I was going to say, when I was beta testing Lusternia, I got all hyped up over the idea that people would not be uselessly raiding home territory like in other IRE games, but would rather be doing all these anti Community quests that could, if done well enough drain the nexus to 0 and remove all villages the community owns.

But people turned out to want to just raid and kill and plunder anyways.

Right now, raiding is limited to running in and killing stuff. Nothing else actually -happens-

The quests were nice, but they're not working now.

Think about something like:
-Influencing the aggro mushroom in the tower basement to come upstairs
-Giving flies to the spiders, to make them follow you, to help you flush out the grasshoppers, which make a terrible noise, which cause the weevils to dissappear for a time
-Doing some quest that ticks off Brennan, so he stiops giving out webs for a time
-Putting different essence into the prime ravenwood to make it stop dropping nuts for a time

I can so see an enemy risking death for this. happy.gif

It'd be more of a pain if this quest made the Ravenwood drop 5 nuts for every feather put in, really.
Richter2006-03-03 20:40:43
Or stirring up locusts, making them start to eat a random totem in the area. happy.gif

There's lots of possibilities, so much better than "kill and run".
Narsrim2006-03-03 20:42:46
These quests though could all be shut down entirely with guards, statues, and totems easily.

Don't really have anything to add but i love the ideas.

Not if you made the quest compenents wander.

Then the raiders have to find them before dying. That's not likely.
Daganev2006-03-03 20:47:29
Its very good thinknig but the quests would have to be VERY CAREFULLY balanced.

For one, the quests should require like 5 people to pull them off, but only one knowledgable person to repair it. Althought amount of time to pull it off, should be less than the amount of time to repair it.

Also, you would have to make the quests move around a bit so standing still and protecting it wasn't really an option.

and I think third, a good chuck of the quest should depend on owning certain villages, or rely on other quets around the basin. Like Serenwilde would require things from teh Tuarian village, and Glomdoring from the Blasted lands. (I'd say greymoors, but that is too good a bashing area to be fair)

Thats not a problem if you have a team of scouts instead of just one scout, or you have a dreamweaver looking for them.
Narsrim2006-03-03 20:48:35
The Taurians are tainted and practice necromancy, why would Serenwilde rely on them? tongue.gif
Daganev2006-03-03 20:49:34
If the Taurians practice NEcormancy, then they would have the means in which to disrupt Brennan from giving out cloaks, now wouldn't they?

Quite honestly, why would anyone bother? Why would people risk hard earned experience and the chance to pray so someone couldn't weevil or give out crow cloaks?
Daganev2006-03-03 20:52:03
Because not everybody is you.

A quest like Gorgogs for the Communes, please!

(fake whining voice) The Communes have too many ways to harm the Cities, they should be nerfed to dirt and then give us Cities something to hurt them with. Let Crow and Hart attack each other more *whine whine whine* (fake whining voice off)
Unknown2006-03-03 20:58:06

Very intresting idea, but as Daganev said they woul dneed balance. They'd have to be the kind of quest in which you plan with a group of players before you strike.

It would be very annoying if some mag or glom or celest person kept on doing the quests to hamper Serenwilde.

Its annoying when Seren or Glom do the Gorgog quest. Cities will do it when a Supernal has been Tainted or a Demon Lord/Lady purrified

Only you would have an idea as insightful as banishing weevils so novices couldn't collect gold. My bad, maybe people would do it.
