Congrats to all who won the IRE poster contest. Those are definitely some really cool places that the pictures were posted at.
I had one question though. Where are the people?!?
We will judge based on:
How ‘cool’ the posted location is. This is very subjective, of course.
How populated the area is. (the more people that see it, the better).
Quality of the photograph. (how clear it is, etc, rather than anything artistic.)
In a hypothetical otherwise equal case, the color poster would beat the B&W poster.
Anyway, this is what Visaas and I sent in. We went for the coolest place we could find with the most people - Times Square.
Congrats to the winners (and especially fellow lusternians Saran and Marius!), I just wish I'd had a better idea what the judges were looking for.

(not me in the pic I swear!)

I was also wondering where the people were at....
However, being that you chose times' square you should have picked something better than a random lightpost.. like maybe that new statue they built of the sailor kissing the random girl.
I just assumed they didn't get any good lots of people pics.

The logic might be that, on the back of a fireman, or at places where you would find tourists, people will see them just because you got there when people weren't around (which is probably better to avoid trouble with) doesn't mean not many people would see it?

I'm dissappointed. If I'd not been lazy, I could have totally had a chance, with my two ideas. Alas, I'm terribly lazy.
Eyod2006-03-08 12:35:30
Well done Saran.
Saran2006-03-08 12:41:02
Thanks, Eyod!
Oh and don't worry the credits have been spent

yeah I'm beating myself. Thinking the contest didn't end till the first, I actually called the signmaker shop a couple days before the 21st getting a price quote on a sandwhich board.
I was totally going to go downtown Reno under the Biggest Little City in the World sign wearing little else then my Iron Realms sandwhich board...bah!

This might be a stupid quest, but are the top winners pictures posted somewhere? I've looked on the Lusternia website and the IRE website and havn't seen anything.
Daganev2006-03-08 19:03:49
umm.. go to the website mentioned in the announce post.

I'm just wondering. Did you think the person who won would have won if the place wasn't relevant to Achea?
Daganev2006-03-08 20:01:21
No... but thats why I suggested the Sungod at UCSD, becaues I bet Matt would have picked that to win.

Curse you southern Mississippi for being so lame!
All the cool places in the region were destroyed by the Hurricane.
Seriously though, congratulations Saran! Marius too! Those were really some awesome pics, by everyone. And Trakis, your Times Square picture is neat too! I've always wanted to go there!
My picture is embarassingly stupid. I'll post it cause I said I would, but honestly, I don't even know what I was thinking when I sent it in! Except that time was running out and I wanted to send at least one in.
The 'extra information' I wrote to go with the picture is pretty lame too.

This is taken at the Hattiesburg Zoo's Tiger Exhibit. It is one of the zoo's most popular exhibits so there's always people around. As a point of interest, one of the tigers in the exhibit chewed off a woman's leg back in 2001, but she's fine now. Still works at the zoo and everything. I'd hoped to use the newer and fancier Jaguar exhibit, but turns out hurricane Katrina destroyed it. The jaguar is fine though, just relocated till they can fix his home.

And I thought we had to make our own posters for the contest, not just print out the one they gave us.

Saran2006-03-10 13:08:53
hehe, Oh and http://www.ironrealms.com/poster_contest_online/index.html
Might explain why Trakis didn't place (i.e two fairly similar ideas, not fair to give one over the other)

Looking at all these submissions, I'm almost positive I would have placed with my idea
if only my concept of time weren't so skewared
curse it all!
