So during my forced time away from Lusternia, I explored this other mud called Shadows of Isiledor, I prolly spelled the last part wrong, but anyway. I don't know if lusternia has this but, They have admins who's soul job is to participate in events and interact with players through mobiles. I think that this is a wonderful idea. I enjoyed rping there very much and wish if this isn't in place here to be put in. It would make players feel like this is more of a world, and less of a game.
Also they have emotes that you can use to target specific people like say my character enters the room and wants to interact with my wifes, It would go somthing like. emote CharacterA walks into the room and looks around slowly surveying the suroundings his eyes stopping to rest upond ~characterB . Now I enjoy doing these sort of emotes and they ad a great deal to this game.
So just a few things i found interesting there and would like to see implimented here to help further the rp of the world.

I'm still hoping for discworlds "Tricks" to come here.
Basically the Witches of Discworld can create an imitation spell which can also be used as a room/custom emote. they can set the difficulty (your abilities are based off a skill tree and performing difficult abilities has a chance of rasing the skill that it's based on), physical requirements, what you see, what a target would see, and what anyone else would see. It can then be set in a hag stone and given to others for learning.
While yes we have illusions and the like here, it would be nice for something like this, especially as it could allow players to buy illusions from mages before hand (so that you don't need to say perform a ritual asking for the wilde to strength and overgrow celest with a mage standing right there) and actually have them work like a spell or coded emote.
EDIT: nearly forgot but tricks actually can have multiple stages based on the witches skill

This is done in many RP-based games, as it's a good idea all around for RP-based games. Lusternia though seems to be a game where the admins want to be as hands-off as possible, focusing on adding new features over holding more mini-RP events. Being a commercial/professional game, they also seem rather paranoid about letting people who aren't admins do these sort of things (and for good reason!), and if they get more admins, they need those admins to help with the more pressing issues.
Personally, I'd perfer to have bugs and balance issues fixed faster over having more little RP things, but that's just me
Daganev2006-03-14 08:20:34
The only way I can see these changes being implemented would be if IRE made a decisions to create an OOC link between the games and credits.
You can apply to be a mobile personifier in any IRE game that you don't have a charachter in, and then get paid the same as guides in your host charachter.
so for example, I've pretty much quit achaea, so I could apply to be a mobile inhabitor on Achaea, and Daganev here in Lusternia would get paid the same rate that guides get paid. Otherwise you have too much work with too little incentive, and a high risk of players inhabiting mobs to increase push RP in thier own agenda based direction, instead of just RPing those mobs.

To be quite honest, I'd do it without any payment, provided the rules for what I can and can't do aren't TOO restrictive and nobody will nag me if I can't do any impersonating for a while for some reason.
I always wanted a position like that to be implemented in IRE games. It just adds so much to the athmosphere if there's someone who can focus on making the little mobs talk from time to time.
And regarding emotes, I think Imperian added those emotes. Or was it Aetolia. Adding a tilde to a name in a custom emote will change the name to be replaced by "you" etc. depending on who sees it.

Well we do have divine who take control of mobs to interact with us, like my barghest log and theres been others, just well they do it when they want to because they find it fun as well probally. But any idea that gets mobs talking more often is a good one

Admins here do it when they need a break from all the work there is to do, as far as I can tell.
Unknown2006-03-14 13:00:54
I suggested something like this, called "Vitalizers", who could do it, but I think Lis basically stated that they've tried it before, and when it fails "it fails miserably". (All it takes is one idiot to cause problems).
Marcalo2006-03-14 14:25:14
I just think this would add a new level of rp to lusternia, now its rare that you can actually interact with a mobile.
Also they have this command called petition, where if you want to start a rp string you petition there rp admins to activate a mobile and explain what you want to happen in the rp string if they feel its worth it they activate the mobile.
The last rp event we had on there, our leader was killed by a slummer orc who was a mob, so we spent 2 rl months searching for him on and off, we just finished the rp of that the other night where we found this orc and killed him. But also there player deaths are perm, which is really cool. But i know IRE would never impliment this. The only time you get ressurected is if you die to a bug in the game.

Taking on admin solely to take over mobiles would be a waste of time and manpower. There is too much to do and only a fairly small team to do all of it.
All it takes is one player who feels like being a tosser, or that person's friends (even if they were from another realm) in such a position to completely abuse it. Players get in huge hypes because Pixies go and cry to them - or townspeople say things, or a pilgrim acts snotty.
Just imagine what they would do if they could control those denizens, including larger ones like the Avatars, Demonlords, and Supernals. It would be chaos, and honestly, I doubt there are any players who can honestly claim they hold no personal bias for or against another organization or player, however minute. Moreso, I would laugh at any of those players claiming they could ignore that bias all the time.
It's just not going to happen.

That about summs it up.
I've had a fair amount of moblie interaction over the months, but the people controlling them don't watch you all the time. Well, maybe Lisaera watches all the time, but she is busy coding and what-not. Anywho, if you present an interesting topic to a moblie, and keep at it, you'll get noticed sooner or later. Just don't expect someone to react to you in the space one 1 hour the first time you do it, and get pissed off and change your RP because they didn't talk to you.

If Estarra thought I was a good RPer and suggested that I do this for Achaea, I can honestly say I wouldn't have any bias there because I don't know whats going on. Same if someone from Achaea was recommended to come over to Lusternia.
It would basically mean that you can't have a charachter in the game that you are working for.. at all, ever.
Since there would be a payment of credits, it would require real world information being given and kept track of which I think would fix most of those problems. The hard part is having IRE make that bridge between the games which as far as I know they currently like to keep seperate.

It only takes you having a single friend of yours that plays an Achaean character to spoil things. And, games are not going to be brought together like that. They are seperate games of the same business. Each game has different producers - and different people running the show. The idea they'd trust people who know NOTHING about their own realms RP and then access to their denizens is absurd.
If players want more roleplay - there are lots and lots of players. They should be sought out at least as actively, if not more so than a denizen.
Unknown2006-03-15 22:20:51
Maybe I'm missing out something but isn't that risk just the same with anyone who applies for Ephemeral? I mean, at least I am not asking for random players to be allowed to posess mobiles. It'd be just the same as any other staff position with appropriate selection process and requirements, only it'd be about roleplaying denizens rather than coding or building or whatnot. I do think there'd be people around who'd meet the standards who just haven't applied for any position because none of them is attractive to them.

Ephemerals are actually not allowed to possess things for some time after coming up, and they've also been forced to give up their mortal - and when they are, they're told to stick to things like pilgrims. Never anything large, and never anything RP shattering.
Besides, as has been mentioned in other threads, part of that roleplay is what makes being up here fun. Taking that away is generally going to result in...almost no gods that really add to the game.
Verithrax2006-03-16 00:17:01
A petition command to ask wether any Ephemerals or gods are present and willing to posess a mob would be interesting.
And they have those emotes in Aetolia:
emote looks up at $kivati and nods knowingly, grinning for a moment before staring into $her eyes.

So you can order the gods around?
How about no.
This whole thread is just a big whine because you want more personal attention/power.
I've said this before on other threads:
If you propose something interesting, and you -repeatedly- talk with a denizen they will eventually respond to you.
If you say something to a few denizens once or twice don't expect to get a response from them.
Viravain2006-03-16 00:36:42
If we're around and willing to possess a mobile....we will.
