RPing

Back to Common Grounds.

I'm trying to improve my RPing. I'm going to be an Ebonguard named Sves who is Igasho. (Picked Igasho cause the blademastery bonus thingy). I was wondering if anyone has any advice on some good ways to RP being part of Glomdoring and the Ebonguard. Is the Commune considered evil, dark, neutral or what? Was never fully sure on that.

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Fallen Angel, Gabreil

Glomdoring's not really considered "evil" or "neutral" or "good." I guess the best way to describe us it thus: "We are the Borg! Resistance is Futile." biggrin.gif We have 1 goal in life: Make everything not Glomdoring, Glomdoring.

Glomdoring is very militaristic in the sense that upper-ranks don't take censor.gif from the lower ranks. Be polite to everyone who is higher than you, be respectful, and you'll be ok. I mean..you can be playful and stuff, depending on the person you talk to, just don't take it over board.

Ok so I'm curious if anyone here can give me a hand. I know the Ooze quest, the Orcs, and the harpy one. But that is about it. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on where to look around for more good money making quests.

Thank you,

Acknor is 3k and decent XP and it takes like 3 minutes to do maximum if you know what you're doing. I've seen it done in 90 seconds before.

I can never get the denizens to talk to me... any other quest I can semi-figure out. Currently Gabreil stay out of Celest and Serenwilde territories as they dont like Glomdoring or Magnagora entering their spaces. Otherwise theres quests in every village (Except Angkrag I think..but Im not entirely sure) so go explore the Magnagoran villages. Theres plenty in nuetral areas, you just need to look around and talk to denizens to figure out what they want, when they talk. glare.gif

As nice as the Borg example is, I think a non sci-fi more nature based example would make it easier to RP what is needed.

Think of Glomdoring as a large swarm of Locusts and locust-eating-Crows who fly in the cloak of Shadow and are able to turn anything they touch into thier food source.

Now consider that my example was a terrible one, and you can start to get the idea.

For RPing, I'd think of what you want your character's personality to be like. Then act it out. You're character will adapt to the circumstances. Glomdoring is very much about respect, and you will learn what it's unique culture is like as you go along. Have fun with it (not the snuggly kind of fun, the "Wow, I as a player really enjoy acting this out") and you'll be fine.

Technically its about Loyaltity,(Shikari) Love and Devotion(Viravain and Crow), and Keeping all that on the inside(Night)... but yeah.

I was going by what I'd perceived, and it wasn't too far off, eh? But the major point was the last part. Enjoy playing your part.

Thanks for all the help but it's not working to well...I think I'm just bored of muds period. I get on...bash, use lessons, try to make gold, and repeat the process. Try to deal with guild tests and stuff and city stuff...just the same old routine...every day. So thanks for the help. Hope this string will help others.

Thanks,

Fallen Angel, Gabreil, forever bored...

Maybe someone can answer this question that has been bugging me for a while now...

I use to be into muds like hardcore. I use to play Achaea and Aetolia for hours on hours without even noticing the time fly. Shoot...I even spent 2 days on Achaea without sleeping...yeah I know it's sad. Anyways...I use to be into them and then I got into combat and got into trying to learn Scripting for zmud. In 4 years, I've managed to learn to build a very basic queue system thanks to a tutorial I found on the Achaea forums by Hathreal. Anyways, it seems like since then it's gotten more and more like work and less like fun. Why? What is making it feel like work? Any ideas? Cause I haven't been able to figure this out in months...and yeah I know I'm slow.

Thanks,

Fallen Angel, Gabreil

A Mud is what you make of it. To quote Fight Club, "You determine your own level of involvement."

Roleplay doesn't just happen, it's something you actively engage in and seek out.
Asarnil2006-03-21 03:50:23
Morridin, if you have to actively engage and seek out opportunities to RP then you are doing something wrong. RP is what your character is doing every second as they live and breath. Sure the big RPable events are nice, but if they are what you need to get into "rp mode" then you are doing something wrong.
Unknown2006-03-21 03:56:34
The starter of the thread was referring to roleplay events, and I told him that they dont just fall in your lap. Standard RP happens all the time, but you have to go out of your way to find the little extra twists.

The bottom line is, MUDs offer only one thing you can't get in an offline game a thousand times better: people.

Playing for the game mechanics must inevitably lead to burnout. And trying to be a RP artiste isn't going to be fun for long, either, as you challenge yourself to constantly be someone you're not.

What MUDs do offer is form and structure to deal with other people in a world of "what if". Just relax, make friends, and don't take the whole thing too seriously.

If that doesn't sound like fun to you, and you're feeling burned out on the hobby after four years, then the hobby probably isn't for you.
Daganev2006-03-21 08:28:19
I have experienced a similar thing and its why I never get good at combat in the game. the more work you have to do outside of the game the less I tend to enjoy the game. If you enjoy programming than programming the combat system is more fun, and you can "test" your coding abilities against others.

What makes me always come back is I get this thought in my head like "Hmm, what would happen if I was able to push org X to do Y.. or Wow, imagine if I was a titan and demigod and stayed active long enough to be recognized to be made a vernal... wonder what it would be like then..."

right now I come to the game to mindlessly bash for a few hours so that I can give my brain a break from all the work I'm doing.

Last time I tryed to do a village quest I was deaf, and I started complaining to people that the villagers wouldn't talk to me, but I eventually caught on... biggrin.gif
