Well, I seem to be finding quite a few little loopholes and oddities today.

As you attempt to move, a pigwidgeon maniacally runs in circles between your legs, causing you to
trip.

(Ignore the writhing, obviously my prone checker isn't quite right yet)
Now, in my frenzied attempts to escape, you'll notice that I tried simply to move southwest continuously. I have an autostander, because I'm quite slow to react manually.
I'm confused about what exactly happened here. I got one message that I needed to stand, then every time I tried to move -while sprawled on the ground-, pigwidgeon tripped me and stole balance. Note also it hits even while I don't have balance.
Narsrim believes that this is intentional, that pigwidgeon should be stealing balance no matter what if you try to move... but I think this is a bug. It seems to me that pigwidgeon should only fire after all other checks to make sure movement is possible.
Am I mistaken?

My formal opinion:
While yes, you can't walk out of a room while sprawled on the ground, you can attempt to do so. It may not prove successful, but that isn't to say you cannot move. It just isn't enough movement to carry you out of the room. The pigwidgeon causes to stumble when you try this thus knocking you off balance.
The fixation in this case isn't the mechanic. The mechanic is fine. The fixation is the wording in the message. "Trip" can mean to stumble, which is quite possible while flailing around on the ground trying to get away, but failing to do so.

You're not crouched. You're sprawled on the floor.
If I'm sprawled out on the floor, a pigwidgeon can run between my legs all it likes. I'm not standing on them, so he's not going to do anything to me.

What is this a battle of words? I'm sorry, but I don't think that's going to be enough. I mean lets look at the word sprawl: To sit or lie with the body and limbs spread out awkwardly. Obviously you could attempt to move in said position.

Here is an analogy. Can you knockdown when someone is already prone?

Yes.
Unknown2006-03-20 08:03:44
Really? And no-one can see a problem with that?
Edit: I mean, if I can be tripped by something interfering with my legs, and can have my legs swept out from under me so that I fall to the ground... why can't I move while sprawled on the floor?

You cannot because to knock someone down, they can't already be down.
The question is can you trip (which my dictionary defines as: A maneuver causing someone to stumble or fall) someone who is on the ground. According to this definition, you can because you could make them "further stumble" by knocking them off balance.
==================
REALITY CHECK:
Game balance tells us the reason you can't knock down someone who is already prone was because you could stack off balance actively and pretty much lock someone. Morslade put me off balance with hammers and ectoplasm for 5+ minutes with old school knockdown.
Game balance also tells us you can lose pigwidgeons. If you it bothers you so much, the lose the damn thing before moving. That way you won't get tripped. Even better, I can't even see you lose it so... why not try doing something that fixes the problem entirely instead of arguing over a single word? Game balance wise, this is FAR FAR FAR from a pressing, substantial issue. Try as you might, you won't make this into a 2-hit behead flame fest.
This is like arguing "how can I move sluggishly through time when I try to look because I'm not actually moving." That may also be the case, aeon won't change as a result of it though.
Unknown2006-03-20 08:11:29
How is this a 'flame fest'? I'm pointing out what appears obviously a bug to me, but I wanted the opinions of others.
Let's just picture the situation. You are lying on the floor. A pigwidgeon notices you have the will to walk (it must be psychic like pooka ), so it runs up and down your sprawled out legs. Suddenly, you 'trip' (maybe... rolling over?) which knocks you around a bit.
It doesn't make sense to me, but I'd like to hear other opinions, if possible.
Edit: Also, this does have tangible effects on combat. Just because it isn't as bad as the love bug ( ) doesn't mean it should be ignored.
If you enter the command to move more than once, it is possible that you will stack balance penalties. That is a problem.

Narsrim2006-03-20 08:16:32
I think you are missing the point. The pigwidgeon doesn't notice your will to "walk" it notices you trying to move - expect you aren't really making any distance because you aren't standing.
Upon said movement, it reaches out and clobbers you again, knocking you off kilter. Furthermore, as we discussed, this isn't an issue of something be too powerful. This isn't an issue of something because just too difficult to hea
This is an issue with you being unwilling to lose the pigwidgeon and are upset that it is hindering you as a result.

If you can lose the pigwidgeon while prone, then its a manageable problem. I somehow doubt you can.

BUG it if you think its bad. Bring it up with your envoy if they'll listen. etc, etc.

If you truely believe this to be a bug then you should have BUGed it, as it is against forum rules to post bugs here.
If however you are just flaming, then Narsrim is right. *shrug*

Well, since no-one wants to actually give their opinion, I guess this thread can be locked.
I'll assume I'm right and that it is an obvious bug.

God's have stated even if you THINK it MIGHT be a bug, you shouldn't post it on the forums.
