I'm slightly confused here about how I can place books into my manse library.

QUOTE

Once a book is placed in a great library it is permanently there, Library must
pay for copies of books for those who wish to borrow it, each copy costs
10,000 gold. If there are no copies, none can be checked out. The writer or
editor of a book can CHECKOUT ORIGINAL and edit it. This has no impact
on library copies (which can still be checked out), costs no library fee, and
the original will eventually return to the library. At this point, the author
of the book can take the book to a printing press and make another original
(to place in personal bookcases, etc.). Once a book has been edited and
returned, it will automatically be published as a "new edition".

Now, apparently copies cannot be made of any copy you take out of a library. So you can't checkout a book, take it to a bookbinder and copy it. Instead, it sounds like you need the original.

Unfortunately, the quote from the above helpfile seems to indicate that only the writer or editor of a book can checkout the original so that a copy can be made and placed in the private library. So... is it true that to build a collection you have to find every author of the books you want and then convince them to take out the original and let you copy it?

How does one place the official world library books into a personal library then? And what if the author and editor go inactive, or are very rarely about?

Help!

I thought that changed, but I haven't tried it with the GL system yet.

I haven't submitted my Who's Who to magnagora yet since it's a work in progress, but both Richter and Ialie have copies on their bookshelves.

I'm with Phred in the "I think that was changed quite recently" camp.

Is anyone in the "I have never had an idea how the hell to work the private library system" camp?

Oh, and yes, one time I did manage to put Tully's book in, but I've never been able to figure out how to stock it like a large library.

I feel an automatically generated complaint letter coming on!

Richter: Your giant metal blimp-man with wings avatar is quite neat. I applaud your choice.

I'm firmly in Richter's camp. sad.gif

And no, you can't copy from a copy still. Nejii kindly tried it for me, you still have to get the author to take out the original.

I'm pretty sure you USED to be able to copy a copy but you can't now, is what I think they meant. unsure.gif

Did you try copying a copy of a library book or a normal book?

A copy of a library book. The one you get when you checkout a book.
