I am an Aquamancer novice just turned lvl 21. About the only place for me to hunt and gain experience is the Tidal Flats killing crabs. Problem is that the first one I blasted after protecting myself with both stone skin and a pentigram killed me. Is there anything I could have done to keep from dying? Some potion or herb? Does anyone know what lvl I need to be to be able to survive the crabs and seagulls? As it is I am stuck with killing rats to gain exp.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Were you using reflections or shielding when you started to get low on health?
Ialie2006-04-10 20:06:16
You could probably do with some health potions, and perhaps a health regeneration charm.
You can get health potions form an alchemist, or you can find some in shops. I suggest hunting rats until you have enough money for one.

Or pilgrims, go collect pilgrims and bring them to the peak until you have enough to get some gnarly equipment. Or stand by me while I gamble, I usually give away a few thousand gold if a novice watches me for long enough.

You can also get Scholars and bring them to your library in Celest. They'll gain you money AND help your city. So it's a win win there.

No, I just did pentigrams and my health was at max but as soon as the crab bit I started dieing really fast.

Clotting will help.

I see all the herbs and potions in the shops but have no idea what they are for. Could you recommend some?

For now I'd just get a health and mending potion.

I've looked and looked for Scholars and Pilgrams but as yet haven't found one. Do they hang out someplace in particular?

Scholars wander the mountains in the big circle around the Basin. Pilgrims are along the roads in the little circle throughout the Basin. People tend to hog these two quests though since they're highly profitable and easy.

Never overestimate ratting, and your Nations basic power quest(mag's is about the hardest out there and still a lvl 21 can kill girl/boy spectres if they have around 5k worth of eq and basic skills).
For Celest the power quest is Kinsmen, and you can get a lot of karma/xp/gold that way, in addition to helping your city out with power.

Ratting is possibly the worst way to get money. Spend an hour tirelessly romping the streets to make 600 gold while you could do a quick walk through the mountains and make the same amount in minutes.

The ONLY time ratting is useful is when you're fresh out of Newton and broke. Then you need it to buy the stuff you need to take on Toronada.

First what/where/who is Toronda? Please elaborate on what I need to buy.
Is a newbie fresh out of Newton ... lvl 21 strong enough for Toronada? Heck, the crabe on the Tidal Flats kill me and just laugh at my only offense ... the Blast spell.
Does an Aquamancer need a healing system with like zMUD like a warrior does?
Ashteru2006-04-12 16:31:51
Tidal Flats are Toronada....
And you should make some minor trigger for the attacks of the mobs if you just want to bash, like 'apply mending to legs' when the crab hits you with the nasty attack.

I haven't trained to either reflections or shielding yet. I am at the lowest trained level in my gield and assume that I can't train further until my guild says so. Is that correct?
Simimi2006-04-12 16:37:24
No no no no, You can train in your skills past mastery once you are out of novicehood formally (that is, train in Aquamancy and what-have-you).

I use zMUD and have studied the scripts posted here. Unfortunately, it is like reading Greek and I only understand a small part of what I'm reading. And putting it all together seems hopeless. I really do envy you folks who can write those scripts.
Bye the way, the crab bites on the foot. Can you apply mending to foot? Also, by the time I regain balance I'm about 1 second away from being dead.
Simimi2006-04-12 16:43:24
Are you wearing enchanted greatrobes? And if it is THAT bad...perhaps you should consider trying something less dangerous, unless you like the risk and don't mind the death. Your guild should be able to help you better ingame, via your guild channels and whatnot.
