I am pretty new, lvl 37. I have transed Planar, Aquamancy, and Psionics (telekinesis). I took lessons in Combat up to Gifted but the skills I gained don't seem to fit with the way I will eventually be fighting. I would like to be able to help defend my city. However, with all my new skills I have no idea how to use them and no way that I know of to practice them. How am I to learn? Can I practice them by sparing without getting killed or by chance killing the person I am sparing? I have a healing system which seems to work well.
There are so many commands in Aquamancy and Psionics that a lot of practice will be necessary for me to learn them and when to use them and develop strategys. I see no way to do this without practice. Help!

Where to start...
Combat is more useful than you think. It does not have many offensive abilities, but the stances and parrying are simply a must if you want to fight against enemy warriors.
You can fight in the arena. New Celest has Amberle, which is south from the Pool, and last time I have checked it was free of charge too. When you die in the arena, you lose nothing - only your defenses. Herbs and potions that you eat or drink while sparring are not used either, and you get power back after the fight.
I am not a mage, but the skills you transed look useful. Aquamancers fight by setting up a demesne (smaller or larger one) and putting up all of its passive effects, demesne-wide - before the fight. During the fight, you would like to use psionics or blast them with your staff. As far as I know, telekinetists focus on two things:
I. Using poisoned daggers that fly around and stab the enemy. It's very effective if you can lock them. Try mantakaya for poisons, it's easy to get and powerful against inexperienced people.
II. Bursting enemy veins, and when they have enough - ripping their heart out. It works if the demesne or other effects manage to cripple them enough.
I think you should ask your guild people about combat advice. Shamarah and Vesar are good fighters, and I think both are Telekinetists too. Don't be afraid, they do not bite... hard.
I forgot the most important thing. You have to use a lot of triggers and aliases - first thing mainly to cure yourself, and aliases so you won't have to type 'point staff at Alexandersson' each time you want to attack them, only something much shorter. If you have no experience in triggers, you can try Ethelon's free one for MUSHclient. It's a bit outdated, but free and it can help you learn the basics. Or, if you have money to spend, buy Murphy's or Iasmos' for 100 credits.

To learn how to fight you need to: spar, spar and SPAR and even SPAR MORE!
Really. More fights you will be in and more things you will learn. All top combatants are sparring all the time to improve their skills, test new tricks, learn how to prevent some tricks and cure them fast enough.
So basic rule is to spar and log spars and then read it carefully without rush to understand what you did wrong, where you could use other skill for better effect. Best place would be to put logs in combat section here on forum. People here will help you to show you what you did wrong and how to repair it.
Learning your own skills is very important thing too, you need to know exacly what you can do and when to your opponent, and even more important is to know what your opponent can do to you. So just dont afraid to spar whenever you can. As level 37 you will be have to less health to fight well with warriors. So get some levels too. 70+ should be enough.
For more technical questions and combat related stuff you can get in Circuit clan. Ask on CT for somene who can induct you there. And dotn be afraid to ask questions there or here on forum in combat or mechanic section.
And dont worry if you wont learn fighting in few weeks.
It took me like year or so to not to shake during a fight and have normal heart beating.
In my first fights my hart wanted to jump out of my chest heh.
And about good skill combos, its best to ask in your guild or on forum.
And you said your system is healing well. Thats good. If you have good system you can focus on your offence and learning your skills and tactics to beat opponent.

I highly suggest learning combat. Parry is very handy to have, and without parry and various stances, you're going to get ripped apart by warriors. Also, if you ever see me loitering around Celest, chances are good I'll spar you, and we can fight in your demesne in the amberle arena. Focus mind in discipline isn't a bad investment either. It lets you cure mental afflictions much like the way focus body cures paralysis.
I think you should ask your guild people about combat advice. Shamarah and Vesar are good fighters, and I think both are Telekinetists too. Don't be afraid, they do not bite... hard.
Hmph!

I suggest joining the Nihilists personally. But if you want to be a puddlemage..just spar alot in your demense, hook your daggers up with the paralysis poison and enjoy because most the realm will die to it.
Shamarah2006-05-02 19:46:42
Talk to me in-game. I'll help you out (I'm the Aquamancer champion).

Psh, you would. Probably correct about the daggers though. Handy those are.
Ashteru2006-05-02 22:15:52
Probably? They are nearly as bad as allhexing people without focus mind. Just use manatkya on all of 'em and watch your opponent get immobilized.

For the most part, people who can't beat me without them can't beat me with them either. Just slows me down a little. Just ask Stangmar

There's a difference if you are hit ever like 3 seconds by something that takes about 2 seconds to cure if you don't spam, and if you aren't.

One of the most important things is dont get upset when you lose or you'll never learn or have fun.
Unknown2006-05-03 00:13:41
I agree with Torak, come to the dark side of the force. We can teach you!
But to be somewhat on topic, just ask Shamarah he isn't bad. (runs a lot but meh..)

Loved the "puss in boots" autograph.
Anyways, learning how to fight is -all- about losing... repeatedly...
But it's fun, interesting... and when you manage to do some damage, damn satisfying. Nihilists rule by the way, really...

Psssh. Ebonguard are the way to go.
Out of the 6-8 people we have on at a given time, 2-4 will wanto to spar. Plenty of warrior-on-warrior practice. And if you need to fight druids, there's Kuraitaiyo to beat on.

Plus you get several highlevel people dragging you around bashing if you express the desire to do so. Not to mention an awesome GHELP HUNTING scroll that's soon going to be up.
