Can one create a clan that is 80% OOC and only 20% Lusternia?

(I have an idea for a clan that helps members hone writing skills to make their odds of winning a Bardic contest higher.)
Xenthos2006-05-06 16:33:06
It's really a bad idea to create a clan that's a mix of OOC and IC, because you'll never be able to tell which is what. It's better to just say it's 100% OOC where you're discussing IC things (such as novels and books).
Unknown2006-05-06 16:36:45
So it's feasible?
Unknown2006-05-06 16:38:56
I detest OOC clans, as it adds to the missaethers on city/guild/council channels about how so-and-so is going to a college party tonight. >_<

But yes, the only thing worse then OOC clans would be trying to blur the line between OOC/IC in a clan, go with Xenthos's recommendation.

The idea is feasible, and putting guidelines on discussions is okay, too (such as, "You can discuss these OOC literary novels, but you can't discuss how drunk you got last night and who you spent it with"). Some people may not join it because it's an OOC clan, some may not join it if they can't say whatever the heck they're thinking at the moment... but there are also some who would have a use for it and might be thankful for the opportunity.

Sooo.... anyone got a spare 500k?
Richter2006-05-06 18:57:50
For an ooc clan? Never.
Unknown2006-05-06 19:13:38
No, I'm not really asking for money. Perhaps somewhere down the line, I may create such a clan... who knows when that might be, if ever. But I'm bothered by your obvious disgust of OOC clans. Even if it's for a good purpose - learning how to write better, it's still evil in your mind? I don't get it!
Shaeden2006-05-06 19:16:19
I'm in a 15% ooc 85% IC clan... it works. All the misesageness I have ever seen is Arae missing IC comments to the Star Council... Oh, she's had some good ones too
Richter2006-05-06 19:35:57
See? That's just one of the reasons why OOC clans are bad, and that's a small reason.

And how the hell can you have a 15% ooc clan and 85% ic clan? First off it doesn't work, but secondly... What, do 85% of the things you say pertain to ic things, or 85% of the helpfiles are ic? That'd retarded.

If you're going to create a clan to help people write better, why make it ooc? Spelling and grammar aren't ooc! Just teach people how to write better, and leave it at that.
Unknown2006-05-06 19:39:34
Just to note.. there was, at one time, a clan for exactly this purpose. It was 100% IC, but when I let go of it, the future leaders turned it into everything from a "murders for hire" group to a "clan of snuggly snooglies".

So.. to learn from this.. realize that an idea like this.. will only be alive for as long as you are around. No one will carry it on.

There is a Celest/Serenwilde clan that you can discuss combat OOCly, and nothing else OOC. Maybe its that one.

The problem with 'OOC' clans is that they are actual IC organizations. No matter what is discussed inside, you can tune totems against followers of your clan, and dreamweavers can read your news posts by possessing members. They exist ICly and can interact ICly.

If you want to create an out-of-game clan, why not make it out-of-game? Create a website forum, a wiki, or an IM room.

Don't mix IC and OOC in clans - the only exception is in a guild dedicated to combat training, in which discussion of triggers and such must take place.
Exarius2006-05-07 06:59:51
But above all, be sure that you don't mix metaphors.

Hrm, good point, and suggestion.
