Here is the article, I was able to find an online video on the Fox website, but I can't link it.

Murphy might enjoy the fact that the man is using a prone weapon standing up.

Ok, I found a linkable video on CNN

still looking for the uncommented video, but I'm in an airport with a slow connection.

He didn't actually release that. He released a version without him screwing up. American troops captured a copy of the complete tape during some raid.

I bet his 200th cousin is in a lot of trouble for leaving it lying around like that tongue.gif

Aahahahaha! That's hilarious! thanks for sharing it, dag!

The clip was on the Daily Show last night.. I feel so proud.

The intended response to this story makes me very uncomfortable for some reason I can't quite understand.

Yes, maybe I just don't have as refined a sense of humour... but I find making murderers into clowns somehow disturbing.
Daganev2006-05-10 16:00:14
Then your not understanding the intended responce to this story. The intended responce is not humour, I just find it funny.

And I think your only disturbed because of Murphy's Avatar.

Mockery is an incredibly effective form of anti-organizational propeganda. If you are laughing at something, you are not scared of it.

I suppose at least the article says these videos are used for propaganda by the military. I just don't think its really a very clever strategy, and I certainly don't find it funny.
Daganev2006-05-10 16:21:01
The video is played over Al-Jazira, much more than it is anywhere else in the world, and its still played on that station.

If you were a new recruit, would you look to that man as a good leader?
Unknown2006-05-10 16:23:51
I don't understand, are you saying that using propaganda to influence the people of Iraq is for the best?

And I'm sorry... I know this was just a light-hearted topic that I probably should ignore, but I really do find it deeply troubling.

Since when has any goverment really cared about telling the truth when a few lies and propaganda are just easier and more effective.
Daganev2006-05-10 16:40:04
I'm sorry, what bit of that video is Not true?

Whats so "propgananda" about the fact that they burnt themselves handling the weapon, and that Zaqarwi was unable to use the gun properly?

The people who would join Bin Laden sponcered groups, have a strong sense of honour, and want to be led by leaders they can look up to. Whats wrong with showing a leader to be a buffoon?

Democrats do that to Bush all the time... Why does it matter that one is a self proclaimed leader and one is a democratically elected?

I find it funny because that gun is ment to be used on the ground, those sticks are to stabalize the gun, and he just looks silly in all black with those white shoes...

I don't like propaganda in any circumstance. It is particularly heinous when instigated by a foreign occupying force, especially with such smug superiority.

Nonetheless, I won't press the matter here.
Daganev2006-05-10 17:00:09
You are aware that Zaqawri is not iraqi yes?

And what exactly makes this "propaganda"?

The article you quoted called it such.

And yes I am aware, I don't see what that has to do with anything.
ferlas2006-05-10 23:14:59
err even the article said it was goverment propaganda dag

Agreed.
Daganev2006-05-11 02:23:02
The article says its propaganda, do you believe everything you read? Perhaps the article itself is propgaganda. I saw the video, I don't see the propaganda in the video. I read the adjective of propaganda, as a way to say, no other source has verified the existance of this video, we only know about it from one government agency.

Zakari's original video, was itself a "propaganda" video (it has facts I could dispute) that was instigated by a foreign force, with an especially smug and superior demenere, attempting to make think that there was an enemy worth being scared of.

I would say, that the clip of the CNN broadcast, which is more voiceover than actual footage is indeed propaganda. However the video that the Army showed, without the voice over, I think speaks for itself and is not propaganda. Just to clarify that.
