Alright. Assume, for the purposes of speculation, we had the population to support the two lost cities. That's Gaudiguch and Hallifax, for those of you following along at home. What happens next?
What would be the geopolitical impact of the return of the Lost Cities?
There are two scenarios I can suggest.
Scenario A:
One of the lost cities become tainted, and one doesn't. Yay. More exclusively 'Good' v. 'Bad' and locked alliances. More lasting conflict, fewer lasting truces. Economic prosperity.
Scenario B:
The cities, seeing Celest's hold over the Basin considerably weakened, both go through spiritual revivals, and are eager to defeat each other as they preach their own orderly or chaotic philosophies. More freewheeling alliances. More political intrigue.
What do you think would happen?

I like scenario b, but it would probably end up having to be scenario a, mainly due to the fact that both gaudiguch and hallifax were activly trying to stop the spread of the Taint until they froze themselves, and having two anti-taint cities added in would either cause the fall of the Taint (which we all know isn't going to happen, it would just ruin almost all forms of conflict save cities vs forests) or there would be an unfair advantage of numbers of tainted vs non-tainted
Hazar2006-05-07 01:11:25
No, no, look at it this way -
"We don't like the Taint, but we don't like the Light, either. Only our position, can lead to truth and prosperity."
Besides, they could reason that Kethuru-possessed Taint is considerably different from non-sentient taint.

Mirk2006-05-07 01:13:09
Well, if they could pull it off with a good rp reason, and do so in such a way that sounds good, I'd be for that.
Unknown2006-05-07 01:18:53
Hallifax is based on logic. It will most likely be very Shikari/Auseklis-ish in terms of its view of the Taint. "Meh. Kethru's gone. It is what it is." Emotions are not what they're based off of, so there won't be any horror over the viscanti. They're just people.
Gaudiguch is the home of the free. Again, the Taint no longer has Kethuru involved, so they're most likely not going to care either. The only people who have a reason to hate the Taint are the ones who suffered because of it. Neither Hallifax or Gaudiguch were effected beyond their own stupidity. We also don't know if time is frozen for them, or if they were all killed, or if they are still living lives, but seeing us like we see them.
Either way, they'll come out of it with no real reason to hate the Taint. Serenwilde lost Gloriana and Ackleberry. Celest got bloweded up. Gaudiguch and Hallifax did it all to themselves, so they'll hate eachother.
Celest vs Mag
Gaudiguch vs Hallifax
Serenwilde vs Glomdoring
Hallifax will most likely ally with Magnagora, because Celest definitely isn't logical. But they probably won't much like Glomdoring, given they aren't very logical either.
Gaudiguch will be a wild card, but because of Hallifax's alliance with Mag, will probably go with Celest.
And Serenwilde and Glomdoring may actually be forced into an uneasy truce to deal with a new flood of cities.
Now, I know it will be people running these orgs, and we'll have another early Glomdoring situation. But as we've seen, the Divine are capable of shaping an org the way they want it, so even though you currently have a "Gaudi and Halli happy joy joy love club" for the people working together, there will be something to force them into conflict to make sure it starts off on the wrong foot.

The way I envision it is that Hallifax will find an interest in the Taint and try to control it for their own uses, and become the new arch-nemesis of Magnagora. They will only make allies when it's useful and profitable to them. Gaudiguch will be a place where people go to get drunk.
But who knows! It'll depend on what the Basin will be like then, and I doubt (or at least I HOPE) it will be different from now.

GDSLKJLSJLKJ343.
This constant, neverending battery of speculation has, over the past few months, completely eroded my interest in the Lost Cities. Just shut up and wait, please god let them shut up and wait I am about to form a clan dedicated to eliminating both cities just so I can stop hearing the same pointless crap about them over and over and over and over and over.
I feel better now. Slightly.

C'mon, people. Don't make the lost cities sound so friendly and middle-of-the-road. If you want them to come back, you need them to be fanatical, and you need Guido to throw himself wholeheartedly into bringing them back. Then, you kill Guido and all of his friends everywhere they go. Many, many times. Do it until he posts on the public boards that he doesn't care anymore, then continue to do it until he really doesn't. Once he really doesn't care, dare him to shout something very, very OOC. Once he's shrubbed and completely screwed out of any chance to take a leadership spot, we'll get 'em back.
Unknown2006-05-07 03:54:47
And then he'll make another alt who will become Princess of Celest.
Unknown2006-05-07 04:01:41
If you read the Histories you know that both Cities thought that the other one might be tainted at the time in which they were attacking them.
I've got to agree with Guido though; we get at least a new thread about this every week or two, constantly.
There has been no new information on the various subjects concerning the lost cities in a real life year; it's all speculation and dreams based on the same minor facts about the places. As you can then surmise any and all threads based on such limited data become very wearing on us as players. The Admin have made their stance on this matter clear, the main part of the educated player base has accepted this as well, and if any are truly interested we have oodles of back-dated threads on this matter, as well as a forum that sports a search feature.
When the urge to make a new thread about the lost cities enters your mind, think for a moment, have people already make a thread about, not only the lost cities before, but specifically the little minor point you were trying to bring up, if the answer is yes (as it will be most of the time) then resist the urge to make a new thread. No don't necro the old thread either, just read it, be satisfied that the point was well argued in the past and was laid to rest in the graveyard reserved for threads that have moved beyond their life span.

My existence feels somehow cheapened.
Hazar2006-05-07 04:14:35
Okay. Does anyone who's mature enough not to whine care to comment on the actual subject?
Daganev2006-05-07 04:25:17
I predict, that like the creation of Glomdoring, people from each community will be sought to form the leadership under cercumstances that are wholly not predictable at this moment, and about the only thing that will remain from the histories are the npcs in the form the "supernals" and some vague idea of the "philosophy" but any concrete political ideologies will be way up in the air, and defined by the "new" gods that will be vital to its creation.
Unknown2006-05-07 07:48:16
The thing is, both of them were pissed off at the taint, both of them inadvertently wiped out the Kethuru in the cloud, but if both of them allied against the Taint when they come back, then there would be huge political unbalance against the tainted, which nobody wants, OOC. There will probably be a sort of layout (can't be bothered to make a diagram) where the lost cities are not permanently allied with any other city, but always against eachother (can't see the Gaudis accepting the "it was all a misunderstanding" routine). There might be a kind of new POLITICS section, where the relations between Hallifax/Magnagora, Hallifax/Celest fluctuate, and th esame kind of thing for Gaudiguch, and also the communes. I can't really see Hallifax going for the Communes, too natural and unpredictable, but the Gaudis might like that.

I feel that the Gaudiguchs will be against the communes. I mean, they have the only thing that can destroy Serenwilde, FIRE!
So I believe that Gaudiguch will go to Celest as an ally and join their forces agains Serenwilde. Pyromancers will be like "BUUUUUURRRRNNNNN stupid hippies!" and Celest, having the only resources of high powered water will be like "Oh look, something shiney very far away from the burning pyre that used to be the Moonhart/Ravenwood tree!"...
<---- is very anti-forestal
and also, I have the next thing on the IRE future game.. a place without forests

I hope that when thsoe cities come out, then they will be considering their belives only true belives.
And i hope that Celest will change its policy a bit to allow it some temporary aliances with not so clan forests/city.
It would be nice if such aliances would change from time to time.
6-7 cities/communes have really nice political potential. All those aliances, trade embargos etc. could be really nice. Right now it just dont work and politics in Lusternia is really nice.

Here's a random thought that's only somewhat related. That new Mother of all trees up in Aether... I think Ackleberry's going to be reborn from a seedling of that tree.

I swear, if the Moondancers alone weren't so powerful and the powers of Glomdoring were more powerful and at least the whole Basin would be more balanced in terms of strenght I would so try to start a war between the whole Basin
I mean, I did managed to push Princess Catarin to talk to Queen Maeve concerning a rift to Celest(and I think I managed to push the whole politics in faethorn a little bit worse on our side. Stupid faes and their not wanting to be a Cherub, which in my opinion Fae
Unknown2006-05-07 09:12:22
er.. you really don't know what you're talking about.
You're basing Moondancer skills off of Narsrim, and that is stupid. Narsrim spends all his time learning to do what he does. He could take any set of skills and do the exact same thing.
Glomdoring's abilities are perfectly badass in their own right. They simply don't have a Narsrim.
Crow is better than Stag. Especially when working in unison with Night. Crow and Night both have mana kills. Crow and Night both have means to drain mana. That makes them far more potent together than Stag and Moon, which really don't play off eachother at all except for Resurgem.
The powers of either guild/commune are equal. Its the users that the Glomdoring lacks.

Actually, Fallen, Stag and Crow are on par when it comes to druids (Stag being better in bashing, but Crow having one or two more afflictions) and Crow is pretty useless to warriors, it lacks the many passive things stag has.
And now, to my question.
Do we know any form of Supernal/Demonlord the Gaudiguch/Hallifax follow? I mean, every guardian/wiccan guild have some creatures the follow, but from what I can remember when reading the histories, I don't think
either of them have anything. Wouldn't that change at least some things in their political situation when handling the other places?
