I know that IRE forbids automated attacks, but what counts as automated? I'm thinking of implementing two things: 1) something that queues my commands when I'm off-balance and 2) something that does a regular attack off of a timer. Would these be considered automated? I've read some combat logs and haven't seen a lot of people doing this, so I thought it might be illegal.

I thought it would be attacks that can attack while you aren't there. Just a bot that attakcs people when they come in to see you or something

Doesnt look illegal to me... I *know* the queue is OK, the timer should be too... what makes them illegal?

A lot of people have something that makes them automatically perform an action when bashing like everytime they recover equi or balance something like swing rat.

um, I think what Ferlas is talking about isn't allowed, but other things, like queueing attacks are ok, because they actually require human input and thought in order for them to work. I think either Viravain or Lisaera had mentioned in an autoharvesting thing, that as long as the action was initiated by a real living person, and wasn't just walking around and harvesting everything autonomously (i.e., just push a button, leave, and viola, serenwilde is stripharvested as opposed to, enter a room, check for plants, and have the harvest thing harvest for you).
But I'm not a divine or admin, and thus, I'm not sure of their policy on such things. Personnally, I think this would be an opportune time to use the ISSUE ME thing or try to contact a divine (cause odds are you'll get a faster response by activley seeking them then for waiting for them to read this.)

No what Im talking about definatly is allowed.
It is perfectly fine to have a triggered alias on balance recovery.
As long as you have to move manually or start it manally its fine.

The general rule is pretty simple: if it can do the work unattended then its a nono.
Autoratting scripts are illegal. Auto-attacking rats but you have to move rooms .. thats fine.
So your stuff is fine. I've seen Apostates/Malignists do this kind of thing to get the most out of the whorish evileye skill.
