How does one go about to become a Guide?

Need to wait until the next guide applications open up, and then you can follow the directions. It seems to happen once every month or two, so just keep an eye open on the announces.

spend lots of time ingame with your charachter, and read the post that tells you whats required of you (in the announce section) it tells you everyting you need to know.

Ahh, thankies
Acrune2006-05-16 22:49:27
I've applied at least 5 times now

It's basically a customer service role really, if you think about it. So, work on your customer service skills.

I never thought of it like that quidgy, Grr Fear my supermarket customer service training

Heh well yeah make sure you promote your relevant skills and experience when applying. It's just like any job application. If I wanted to get hired as a computer engineer I wouldn't go and tell them about the years I spent working as an apprentice carpet layer.

You also have to keep a cool temper. Constant annoying novices can really wear you out. And 5 credits an hour isn't really -that- much. 2 hours at minimum wages IRL earns 15 website credits. It's more of a volunteering-I'm-feeling-better-about-myself job.
Acrune2006-05-17 01:59:49
I have a customer service job
Its not unusual for me to have to help the same customer for 4 hours either . And I'm awesome with novices. I've reaaaaaaalllllly wanted to guide for ages. Oh well

I work in customer services eight hours a day, am almost 21, have 1500+ hours of playtime, and have applied a number of times.
I think they accept applications using a complicated process called: a monkey. The monkey sits there, and throws some into one pile, some into another, and wipes his bum-bum with the others. He also eats banannas, and his name is Charles.

Actually, the process is simple: we accept applications, making sure all requirements are fulfilled, and that the people we consider choosing are not immature little children, who tend to have many issues filed against them for things like behaviour or policy abuse, or have cases of their rolepoints being removed for blatant OOC happenings, and/or that they have never harassed, or threatened to harass our other guides.
We also rarely need many new guides for each time we allow people to apply - we choose the best we are offered. These people are going to be helping the lifeblood of the game, so we are going to prefer those we feel will be able do a better job right off the bat.

Ah, so the higher ups think bad things about my character. Or that I'm lacking good things. Lovely.
Shaeden2006-05-17 17:03:22
Ugh becomming a guide... I was an undersec for 4 months... First 3 I loved helping people, then 3rd month ended and BANG I hated novices

It was more likely that there were simply positions filled by others. I wouldn't get discouraged so quickly. There are plenty of ways to push yourself to the top, after all. One of the major ways to show this is simple maturity - it can get you so very far in who we choose for guides, because they are desperatly going to need it, along with an inhuman amount of patience.
Acrune2006-05-17 17:38:05
Hmm, patience I can do. Maturity... hope you all don't look at forums. I'm not always at my best here.
Thanks for the input though, I'll keep applying, maybe I'll get lucky.

I'm just trying to express various frustrations in an amusing way.

Aww.... that means I probably couldn't be one I think it would be cool to do.

Eh, try anyway if you want it. Maybe I just have crappy luck

I always think about applying when it comes around, but never seem quite able to convince myself to just turn in the app - Mainly because it always seems to come about as I'm going through an issue that limits my game-time to the point I think I wouldn't be much help.
