Viable Races for Effective Warriors

I am at my first incarnation, and my first experience with IRE and Lusternia. I chose Tae'Dae as my race. Given their strength, size, and lack of intelligence, Tae'Dae appeared to a rank newcomer to be a warrior race.

Now I am beginning to spar and I realize that Tae'Dae slowness, size, and lack of intelligence make them terribly vulnerable. I just do not see Tae'Dae as a viable build for any purpose other than role play.

Murphy recently posted a very intelligent comparison of Igasho, which are really not viable warriors, with Taurians, which are viable warriors.

We know that Shadow Faelings (moth warriors?) and Aslarans are great builds because of their speed. I have read that loboshigaru and taurians can be marginally viable as warriors. How would you rank the races as warriors, and why?

Krokani, Aslaran, Shadowfaeling Dracnari, Brood Viscanti, Imperial Merian, Elfen Lord, Human, Orclach, Taurian.

choose your style and find one of those that suit your fighting style. Krokani and Orclach aren't bad at all for tankiness, neither is taurian.

Human is good for xp, the specialised races aren't to shabby either. The best 1 handed weapons races are the speed ones for sure.

Murph, you forgot Loboshigaru. The L3 health regen, 10 int (which is more than most of the warrior races) and high Str, Dex and Con with no balance penalties makes them quite a nice race too.
Ashteru2006-05-21 22:05:56
Yeah....as a Lobo I needed one combo to get the head from none to heavy. That was nice. tongue.gif

Generally true if you're unable to afford artifact runes. However, Daevos and Icarus both do extremely well with their high damage/precision weapons as Viscanti and Taurian.

The specialised races are actually pretty damn good. I'd personally rate Elfen and Merian Lords at the top of all four. The only downside is you less flexibility in choosing specialized races. If you can't become an Elfen or Merian Lord I would recommend you pick a race dependent on your fighting style. Fast races for speed/afflictions and high strength races for raw damage/wounding.
Asarnil2006-05-22 07:41:02
High strength AND dexterity. If you choose a race with low dex then you are screwed.

dwarf's are good
Shaeden2006-05-23 17:08:09
How are furrikin? I figure with their 17 Dex and balance recovery they can't be -that- bad
Daganev2006-05-23 17:11:19
It really depends what they do to warriors in the envoys. Hopefully they will increasae the viability of warriors so that not only your weapons matter.

Right now, your race is fairly irrelevant compared to your weapon.
Ekard2006-05-23 17:35:40
IMHO best race for warrior who cant/wont buy any OOC credits would be Loboshigaru.

Stats and regen is just plain amazing.

On the contrary, doctor Watson.

EDIT: I think this needs elaborating. With non-masterwork MACES (mediocre weapons, as we all know) but as a specced elfen I was hitting stronger - both in terms of damage and wounding (not only per-hit, but most importantly - per-second too) than as a faeling with masterwork morningstars.

And sorry Kurama, dwarves suck as knights. When compared to other races (read: those from Murphy's list). Furrikin and unspecced faelings suck too. Dex matters, but STR matters more. Much more.

So true. So true.

I miss beaing human. Aslaran is fast but i prefered human. If i wouldnt want faster balance for forging i wouldnt change human. Maybe one day i will get cameo. wub.gif

What stats are you talking about?

I would imagine that your non-master maces would be better than those master morningstars in the hands of a faeling also.

Also, the issue is your ability to kill people, not just what numbers it gives.

I really need to reincarnate into Elfen.
Problem is, I reincarnated into dracnari suicide.gif
Murphy2006-05-23 19:19:27
Dacnari is actually a good warrior race...

When the first lot of warriors came through, dracnari was the choice because of the int you got for surge, the con and the decent str you could really damage people well.

The maces were lower on both speed and precision than morningstars, and slightly higher (100 as compared to ~80) in damage.
And even though (which I agree with) the issue is your ability to kill people - which mainly includes system and personal skill, a weak race still has a negative effect.

In other words, just because someone rocks as a warrior furrikin, it doesn't mean warrior furrikins rock. It means he is awesome, and would be more awesome as a non-furrikin.

If you want to powergame, dont do it in Lusternia for christ's sakes. Seriously, I mean, wtf? Play for rp and combat, but dont spend thousands of dollars and spend all your time trying to figure out what the optimal builds are.

(btw, newsflash. if you want to be any good at all combat wise in this game you will need about 1000 credits) Start saving sonny!
Unknown2006-05-23 23:07:01
I'm just answering the original author's question.

As for powergaming. If you want to be an effective warrior, let's face it - you HAVE to powergame. Just because you have an effective character, it does not make you a horrible RPer or a horrible person.

Or alternatively, the next time Magnagorans come raid whatever's left of Rockholm, I can try to stop them by means described here:
(I suggest reading this webcomic by the way, you have no idea how many similarities to Lusternia, or any other MMORPG for that matter, you will find)

I can't seem to find the strip with my exact quote, but here are some other ones. Fitting, too.
