Yeah yeah i know polls like this are made all the time. I'm a Level 30 Ebonguard Loboshigaru and i've put a little more than 120 lessons into axelord. I chose it on more of an impulse really so I'm not particulaly attached to the axelords skillset. Anyway with the recent changes I've realised that they don't seem as appealing anymore (or before really since after what people are saying it didn't seem that interesting before the changes). So I'm wandering what I should do.
Cheers

Let me be the first to say that this kind of thread is dumb. Basically, you're asking:
"Oh, yeah, axelords got a nerf so now I'm asking which is the most overpowered class to switch to."
Am I the only one who sees something wrong with this?

Nah. There are 2-3 RP nazis more on the forum, who will try to boycott any attempt of others to have an effective character. Doesn't matter, changing skills or reincarnating. I am sure they will share your POV too. But I do not.
That being said, I would stay an axelord. There will be a special envoy summit about warrior changes, which will (hopefully) make two-handers balanced when compared to BCs and BMs. If you still feel shafted after the envoy, then by any means change.

And this is why role-play will remain optional in Lusternia.
And before anyone gets upset, this is an observation rather than a critisism.

Gah. Roleplay =! having an ineffective character.
And having an effective character =! non roleplaying.
Also, Razorvine's one of these 2-3 people I was writing about.

Nope, but it doesn't completely eliminate the metagamer as a non-RPer either. Especially if they see ICly that their combat abilities stink as a furrikin warrior, igasho mage or whatnot, and they hear (also ICly) that merians have an inborn magical aptitude or that krokani make great Bonecrushers.
Same for skills - if someone RPers a person willing to guard their city/commune with their lives, there is nothing non-RPing in them picking a skill which will allow them to maximise their combat potential.
That being said, I think we broke the hijacking record on this forum. Hijacked after one post - to the mexican border, please!
So, to add something constructive to the thread.
If you are willing to re-spec into one-handers, here is a general difference between them:
DISCLAIMER. It is a very general description, and I am sure more experienced fighters will eat me alive for this. Heh.
Bonecrushers have good opening moves (that is, the ones that require lower wounding levels) and specialise in stunning the enemy.
Blademasters have good finishing moves (high wounding levels) and specialise in pinning/severing nerves and tendons.

Well, not completely...
However, the meta-gamer is at best someone who role-plays occasionally (when it suits them).
That counts close enough to a non-roleplayer for me.

No... by definition.
So... all you meta-gamers out there, I'm a bit tired of playing an underpowered character...
which is the most overpowered class/race combo to switch to?

Bull. The character doesn't have our perception of a skill being over/underpowered (Races are different). If axes are obviously and visibly inferior to swords, why does anyone use axes to begin with? Why do axes even exist? Metagaming is just that, matagaming; it's treating the game, in-character, as a game, and that's just idiotic. And finally, any edge you get from having an overpowered skill will disappear in the next envoy summit and likely only exist inside people's heads anyway (If over half of the major warrior fighters were Axelords, would axelord be underpowered? What conclusive proof do you have that it's underpowered to start with?) Metagamers are bad roleplayers, simply. They don't give a damn about playing a character and just want to display their epenises by winning fights, and instead of learning to fight, they blame their skills and decide to switch to whatever current opinions think is 'overpowered'.
Oh, and Lusternia isn't RP-Optional. It's RP-Enforced But Riddled With Idiots.

I'd go with a Psionic Geomancer Faeling/Mugwump if you're looking for the specialized archtype with the strongest current offensive power.
You have to realize that things change, and are constantly being looked at by the admin to keep everything workable, what’s 'overpowered' today might not be in half a year or so, Lusternia is evolving, and Lusternia combat is evolving with it.
That's my little disclaimer to protect myself.
Verithrax - Axes exist to chop down trees, and give druids nightmares during their sleep.

I was already sorta over the axelord skillset anyway. Like i picked it because it sounded pretty cool but the more i learned about it, the more boring it sounded and then with the changes it doesn't really appeal at all. But anyway thanks for the input i'm still thinking about it
Verithrax2006-06-05 10:39:52
If you're bored with it, go ahead - I personally think dual-wielded rapiers have more cool factor than any other weaponry choice; if they're also the strongest currently, that's a coincidence. After the next envoy summit, I'll still think that.
Shamarah2006-06-05 10:50:19
Bonecrusher is currently the strongest weapon skill, hands-down. Blademaster just can't compete with its stun and constant afflictions like stupidity, concussion, etc.
Unknown2006-06-05 11:18:01
I find a nice of fun things in Blademaster that I would like to have, but I consider Bonecrusher more in my tastes. Regardless, I still think these two are balanced.
Verithrax - are we using the same terminology? I think my definition of "metagamer" is slightly different to yours, from what I read. Regardless, I am not defending people who hop guilds without any good RP reasons, only those who want to change into a better race/spec because they made a bad choice and want to fix it. Bashing first I can understand, bashing the other ones makes one a troll.

Hm. I was in a similar boat - as a fresh Ur'Grunt, I decided to go with Pureblade (as an Orclach, anyway). Then found out that Pureblade had a few balance issues at the moment. At first, this was a little galling (who wouldn't be upset to find out that a skill they'd based their character around would be underpowered?). But... since then, I've realised something. Something rather important. Something huge.
*deep breath*
Thereismoretolusterniathanbeinggoodatcombat
Yeah, I know, people enjoy being the number one ranked combatant. People enjoy beating others in duels, and in events. People enjoy raiding. But really... it's still possible to have fun, even if you feel that your specialisation isn't as great as it could be. Maybe even because of that. After all, where would the fun be in having the Lusternian equivalent of a large, heavily armoured killing machine that nobody could defeat? Skill in combat doesn't just mean exploiting already-powerful moves. It's a combination of a lot of things. More to the point, unless you're also willing to put in a lot of time and effort on a system of reflexes, ultra-elite combat is out of the question. So, unless it's really totally crushing that Axelord may not be as good as one of the other specialities, just stick with it. Eventually, the whole issue will sort itself out.

Er, no. Saying someone is a troll for defending IC behavour doesn't make it so. Do you even know what 'troll' means?

Lets force people to Play Charachters they find uninteresting!
Esepcially after putting in time and energy to get a certain amount of skills.
Oh look, I just spent $100 on a skillset I thought would be fun, oh damn its crap.. however my charachter doesn't know that! so I shall keep the crappy skill, yay!

Changing race isnt metagaming, metagaming is the use of ooc knowledge to help your charater.
In character you know that you would be better off as a taurian warrior than a mugwump warrior and ic you know you have the option to purcahse magic trinkets which lets you change your race. Changing race is in no way metagaming.
And either help the guy who is asking for help or dont bother posting here at all, if you want to rant take it to idiots.
But about the bone crusher or blade master option, well the general agreement is that bone crushers are the best for burst afflictions/kills they aim to kill fast and quickly. Blademasters are more powerful in the long run that bone crushers due to their afflictions.
