Of Taint and Hope, a Debate between and Aquamancer and a Geomancer

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Just so you know, I was scrying random
magnagorans to see their position on my own, not under someone else's command."

Telrath tells you, "Changes little, really."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Just clarifying. How's the taint? Last time
I saw it was corrosive I believe."

Telrath tells you, "Enduring in its inevitability, as always."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "The inevitability of doom, I beleive. The
doom it will cause upon the basin and upon itself."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "It is such a horrible thing for
destruction."

Telrath tells you, "It's hardly destructive - only from your point of view.
Working naturally, it transforms."

Telrath tells you, "You light-zealots, on the other hand, most assuredly destroy
anything touched by even the faintest trace of Taint."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Transforms, mutates, corrupts, destroys.
All the same thing. And we do it out of protection. The taint is somehow new to
the land and the source is not a respectable source either. It is within the
nature of the soulless to consume and destroy, who says the taint doesn't have
the same nature?"

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Consuming until the point where no life is
present and all that is left is destruction and taint."

Telrath tells you, "We do. Transformation is MUCH different than destruction.
Take a look around you - you hold as much capacity to destroy as much as we
can."

Telrath tells you, "Hrm...so Magnagora holds no life?"

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "It holds life for now. However it holds
un-life, perhaps the first step to destroying."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "And by the way."

Telrath tells you, "Your fear of the unknown is amusing, as always."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Destruction is transformation."

Telrath tells you, "But transformation is not necessarily destruction."

Telrath tells you, "Destruction is one aspect, yes."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "But your transformation may lead to
destruction."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "I have a question, Archmage."

Telrath tells you, "Hmm? Will it be as fallacious as your others?"

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Where does the Taint comes from?"

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "It's a simple question."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Where does the Taint comes from?"

Telrath tells you, "Ah, here we have an example of drawing your point by
association. Because it was formed by the touch of Kethuru, we obviously want to
devour all."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "I don't believe YOU want."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "I believe that deep within your people
there lies a shard of some elder or various elders."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "But you have to consider the origins of the
taint."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "How the saying goes? The apple doesn't fall
far from the tree?"

Telrath tells you, "I almost pity your sadly short-sighted conclusions. We see
our gift and do what we will with it."

Telrath tells you, "The Taint is a fragment of Almighty Kethuru, no longer tied
to Him."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "How do you know?"

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "How can you know if the seed of Kethuru
lies dormant within you? For all we know your mind could be controled by
Kethuru, for I am not in your mind and I doubt your sanity."

Telrath tells you, "Hardly worrisome to me. If it is so, then it is so."

Telrath tells you, "Furthermore, what is sanity?"

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "When one can judge clearly, of course."

Telrath tells you, "So you claim to be able to judge with complete clarity?"

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "I can judge with complete clarity."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Nothing fogs my mind."

Telrath tells you, "I would explain in length about how 'sanity' is a wholly
relative matter, but it would do little."

Telrath tells you, "Is there anyone who feels they can judge nothing clearly?"

Telrath tells you, "Perhaps."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "You raise a valid point."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "One sanity can be another's insanity."

Telrath tells you, "But of course."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "But you can judgee based on the better of
the whole."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "What it is best."

Telrath tells you, "Ahhh...and what is 'for the best'?"

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "To be at a mercy of what we don't know and
may cause our demise is not the best option. One who pursues the occult may end
up falling into a deep hole of pain and suffering until you reach your utter
doom."

Telrath tells you, "Tell me, do you Aquamancers understand the entirety of your
abilities? How much do you know of your Tide Lords? I know we have an extensive,
on-going project detailing the entirety of our domains."

Telrath tells you, "If you are truly omniscient, then why do we remain? Why do
these problems still plague you?"

Telrath tells you, "NOTHING is omniscient."
You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "One can never be omniscient and I have no
claim of being omniscient, I'm cautious."

Telrath tells you, "We work to understand what we can and explore new
possibilities. Why do you fear change, Celest?"

Telrath tells you, "Why does it terrify you so? Your tried-and-true methods have
certainly not brought perfection and happiness to your city."

Telrath tells you, "How many of your fellow citizens gamble in your tents, I
wonder?"

Telrath tells you, "Do they not submit themselves to the chance of loss and
failure in hopes of great gain?"

Telrath tells you, "The difference is, we work to MASTERING the odds and playing
them toward ourselves."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "My tried-and-trye methods are safe at
least. And we keep discovering new things. Didn't we discover of Psionics?
Didn't we discover also the Planar magics? We did brouoght the taint into the
land. And gambling is not one activity I hold close to me. But anyways, we
discover things, yes, but we do not play with something that may and probably
will explode in our faces."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Tell me, Archmage of the Taint. What can
the taint give to me? I see nothing but doom in that path."

Telrath tells you, "I almost pity your ferverent desire to lock yourselves away
in time. The fact that your discoveries predate the arrival of the Taint make
those points irrelevant."

Telrath tells you, "The Taint has given you nothing because you have chosen to
accept nothing from it."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "What has it given to you then?"

Telrath tells you, "My mind wanders, but I shall respond to what I last paid
attention to: You gain nothing from the Taint because you have chosen to
actively work against it. The Taint has expanded my mind so that I may work
toward perfecting reality. But do you speak of tangible, immediate benefits? Of
course there are many, but those matter little in the broader scheme. If you
limit your perceptions to such matters, then you seek only to exploit 'Light'"

Telrath tells you, "Your selfish mentality is exactly what brought the downfall
of Old Celest, and you are poised to repeat your past mistakes due to your

Telrath tells you, "If you seek to follow a path only for sustained personal
gain, then you are a sad creature indeed."

Telrath tells you, "Tell me. If you take a step forward, do you not risk falling
and causing yourself injury? Then why do you walk at all? Stand in place and
avoid all injury, all movement in any direction."

Telrath tells you, "Be safe and secure. Do not feed yourself, as you risk
choking on your food, or perhaps ingesting something detrimental to your
health."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "You are streching it up, Archmage. I do not
follow the light for personal gain, I do it because I believe it is the right
thing for the Basin."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "I walk, yes, but I do not walk where I know
I will fall and die."

Telrath tells you, "Do you not walk on wet ground? Hmm? You can fall anywhere,
really."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "I do not walk, I swim. It is my natural
environment. And I do not like to walk too much, I am constantly riding my
turtle."

Telrath tells you, "Port, safer."

Telrath tells you, "Find shortcuts."

Telrath tells you, "Your turtle is not completely surefooted either, and I too
use magics."

Telrath tells you, "And yes, utilize your turtle at all times, depend on it. And
what happens if it is slain?"

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "I pray for its soul, bury it and try to
call another one."

Telrath tells you, "Even if such a strategy proves ineffective after a time?
Will you not adopt?"

Telrath tells you, "That which fails to adapt stagnates and dies."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "I will adapt, but I will not try to ride a
Lobstrosity. Adaptation goes within the range of common sense."

Telrath tells you, "Why do you somehow carry the notion that we suddenly wish to
attain that which is obviously out of our grasp? We work TOWARD goals."

Telrath tells you, "Perhaps...a lobstrosity could be tamed."

Telrath tells you, "Of course, you would be paralysed by fear. The fear of it
slashing you is obviously too great."

Telrath tells you, "Denying yourself even the POSSIBILITY."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Alright, there may be a posibility, but one
cannot deny its own nature. Nature is more powerful than nurture."

Telrath tells you, "That, is a point many would contest."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Elders did."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Where are those who did thought that the
Soulless maybe changed?"

Telrath tells you, "Hmmm? Your speech is a bit garbled, clarify."
2408h, 3896m, 4228e, 10p, 10940en, 18380w ex-

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Some Elders thought that the Soulless
suddenly transformed and were peaceful. Some of them went to meet them and you
know how it all ends."

Telrath tells you, "That was taking matters to extremes, was it not? Do we think
the Soulless to be harmless? Certianly not. We know full well that Kethuru wants
nothing less than pure annihilation."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "We do know now."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Do you think back then they knew?"

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "If so, why did they went to meet them?"

Telrath tells you, "Indeed, sacrifices were made, but did we not LEARN from
them?"

Telrath tells you, "To adapt is EXACTLY that."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "We did."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Well, tell me, do you not think that the
Taint holds some essence of Kethuru that may rise and end up consuming the
Planes and your people?"

Telrath tells you, "Yes, it does."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Then why do you continue that path?"

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "Why do you still walk to a possible doom?"

Telrath tells you, "It is all a matter of possibilities."

Telrath tells you, "ALWAYS. They cannot be avoided EVER."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "If you know it's a possibility, why do you
keep risking it? What is so important to keep going towards that route?"

Telrath tells you, "Adaptation and the continued existence of the Realms. Why do
you fear for yourself so much, Celestian? Perhaps it is time for the Basin to be
begun anew."

Telrath tells you, "Furthermore, mortalkind has proven itself against Kethuru in
the past."

Telrath tells you, "And all the Soulless, for that matter. Does your sense of
self-preservation overshadow your duty to the growth of the Basin?"

Telrath tells you, "Sad, self-serving little Merian."

Telrath tells you, "Of course, I only draw these whimsical titles from what I
have seen."

You tell Archmage Telrath d'Murani, "I do not fear for myself. I fear for all of
the Basin. We may not have the strenght we had then."

Telrath tells you, "Then your pessimism cripples you. If that is the case, then
there is DEFINITELY no hope for the Basin."

Telrath tells you, "The power of suggestion and perception is more powerful than
you think."

You begin to snub Telrath.

I love how Debates and the debating skill in influence are oh so similar, with snub being me with a shattered ego.

My character belives in hope and being proven that thanks to him there will be no hope really affected him. And I needed some food in real life sad.gif

Interesting. I like it smile.gif. Skip the snubbing though - just snub him IC.

It's an IC snub, I just unsnubbed him when I could... It was an interesting conversation and I liked how I ended

Never bring a knife to a gun fight Orti. As you see Telrath is a walking machine gun of fun filled facts. I did like seeing the discussion though... smile.gif Sooo I wonder how Orti is going to use this new knowledge... maybe he should come to Mag and learn further.

Mmh. That's fun to do occasionally. Usually these days I just kill the person instead though, tends to get the point across. tongue.gif

My connection was dying every 10 minutes and I was seriously sleep deprived, your snubbing saved me tongue.gif

I enjoyed that. Civil discussions like this to really develop people's characters beyond, "I'm Good, you're Evil. It's been like this forever. Prepare to die." and I hope I can have more of them (and I'll actually have some points prepared for Telrath...who still needs some fleshing out). Soll and Telrath's conversation during the raid on Magnagora was fun too.

Oh, and I would have if he wasn't sitting in a manse at the time, Shamarah...suppose I'm glad I didn't biggrin.gif

Go Telly! you show'im uncle tongue.gif

Seriously though, utilizing "snub" when your ideas for a proper response to a debate end is... pathetic. It's an ooc tool which should be used if one keeps harressing you, you started this debate and it wasn't offenssive to he very least.
If anything, snubbing him was practicly declaring that you had no idea what to say.

That was the whole point.. and is why he related it to a shattered ego.. his character took the cowards way out of the debate.

Snubbing can be IC, because its as simple as blocking your mind off to a person.

Shaeden tells you, "Thanks."

You tell Ecclesiar Shaeden, "For what?"

Shaeden tells you, "Proving them right."

You tell Ecclesiar Shaeden, "Who? Celestians?"

Shaeden tells you, "Yes."

Shaeden tells you, "They called you a traitor, right? Now look at you."

Shaeden tells you, "Soon I'm going to have to turn my powers against you, Orti.
Rest assured: I will do it. I'll be upset about it, to attack one I once would
have died for, but I will do it."

You tell Ecclesiar Shaeden, "Eh. I guess I was a traitor after all. Well, I
guess I didn't let them down, now did I? I was what they thought I was. And no
worries, Ecclesiar. You do what you must and I'll do what I must. We are, after
all victims of the circumstances and our destinies. It's all under the tapestry
of Fates. I do not hate you for wanting me to kill you, nor I do expect nothing
less than pity from your part. It is our nature and our destinies that have put
us in this path. I will remember you, Shaeden. I will and I will hold it on my
dreams. But as you could see, the Dreams will be your Demise. Or perhaps the
other way around. It is only the Fates that will see this end."

Shaeden tells you, "I do now want to kill you. I simply must."

You tell Ecclesiar Shaeden, "It's our nature, as I told you. The light will
always chase the shadow until there's no more than light, and the shadow will
try to black out the light. Constant struggle that it will end when the other
side dies out."

Shaeden tells you, "How can you live in a city you yourself call "shadows"."

Shaeden tells you, "Why would you deliberately and conciously CHOOSE to live in
darkness?"

You tell Ecclesiar Shaeden, "Well, that is a long answer. Well, you could say
that I try to follow a path that I am trying to chose. I am walking the path of
the traitor. I don't know where it will lead me, but it will eventually lead me
out. Why Magnagora? I don't know, actually. It was the shadows perhaps that
claimed my soul or maybe it was because I was blinded by the light that my sould
now claimed the shadows. I wish I could tell you, Ecclesiar."

You tell Ecclesiar Shaeden, "But, eventually, it will all end. I do not ask for
forgiveness because I do not want it, nor do I ask for you to save my soul
because I do not want it. I do not ask for you to not kill me because I do not
want it. I ask for you to do as you must, for I will do as I must. I will spread
the taint and you will clean it. I will spread the shadows and you will clear
them. I will soil the Seas and you will try to flood them back. It is our
nature. Walk well."

Shaeden tells you, "Fine."

Eh, don't think so.

Orti is still gay for the light, he's just not joining them. It's difficult to explain. Perhaps it's masochism or selfdestructive behavior.

He's trying to force himself to eat all the propaganda about Magnagora until he's "fully tainted".

If you have seen Brotherhood of War (Tae Guk Gi) you can imagine somewhat...

the explanation for that is me learning how to code to be a "1337" dreamweaver kiss.gif

Daxera tells Kahazul "You have been a bad, bad boy, I will not marry you unless you renounce all that you formerly loved and join me in Celest."

Kahazul tells Daxera "Yes Mistress Daxera, I hear and obey."

Kahazul thinks to himself "Yes, yes... excellent. now my plans of total warfare between communes and total basin domination will soon come to pass. The foolish wench thinks I do this for her? Haha. I will bury her along with her precious city. Soon the basin will be mine and all will bow before me!!"
