Well, I have to say, I was impressed by this site, and I decided to let you enjoy it too. tongue.gif It's a very good site with pretty much every translation you can think of.
English - German

Why German is far cooler than english?

beautiful -- das Schöne
beautiful -- eindrucksvoll
beautiful -- prachtvoll
beautiful -- schön
beautiful -- vortrefflich

A language that has that many and more words just for beautiful is great for flirting, writing and every other occasion. tongue.gif

Its a hard call.. thus this famous EU debate...

QUOTE(EU Legistlation)

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby
English will be the official language of the European Union rather than
German, which was the other possibility.
As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that
English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year
phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this
will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in
favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year
when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like
fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be
expekted to reach the stage where! more komplikated changes are possible.
Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have
always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v".

During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords
kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensi bl riten styl.
Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.

Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze
forst plas.

That accent is totaly a discredit. sad.gif Ask everyone that talks to me on Skype, it's a far call from what our accent actually is.

I still remember when I tried to learn german (Spanish here, already a decent grasp of english so looking for a new challenge).

I gave up after a month. My throat just CANNOT make those gugling and growling sounds.

Try Dutch? It's much easier to pronounce in my opinion. If you can pronounce a Scottish or a northern North American accent you can pronounce Dutch.

I <3 Deutch. I lived in Germany for 3 years and was forced to learn german in Host nations class. argh.gif That class is ebil! I like Deutch, because it is a fun language but...some of the guys just sound so...girly. But german is a rather gutteral language.
Iridiel2006-06-12 08:51:16
Yep, dutch sounds way easier. But if I learn a language I need to learn one I'll use now and then, and only way of using dutch in spain is being on the tourism industry smile.gif

English has plenty of beautiful synonyms. Most have very different connotations, though. It's a very nuanced language when spoken properly (which means you have to ignore the Brits). Beautiful stems off into gorgeous and handsome, which both have gender connotations, but can be applied to people of either gender (and provokes a very specific image when mismatched). Travelling a little further down the road, you get sexy, cute, lovely, attractive, and majestic, all of which carry meaning beyond simple eye candy.

So there. English > German.

You know that what you quoted was just beautiful, and that you could as well find two or three words in german for every other word you connected to it? tongue.gif

German is like lego.

1. Angular words, with hard edges.
2. You can pile up words on one other, like bricks.
3. Choking hazard for children below 3.

Ja, ja, gut.
