Dungeon

Okay, for my 14 years stay in Lusternia as Turgeis, I known a lot when it comes to travelling (except for a few aetherbubbles and that icy place closedeyes.gif )

How about we expand the Catacombs? Make it like a vast Dungeon where a group of adventurers enter and has to pass monsters and traps, not to mention other adventurers who wish to get the gold for themselves...

Every year, the monster and trap locations will change making it much difficult for those who have ventured inside before. There will be chests around containing gold, the monsters will be aggressive, traps ranges to those of a Hunter to glyphes in the air, enter a room and several runes will hit you, poisoned darts as well may be triggered and afflict you with various affliction. Secret passages will be revealed depending on your Environment skill, however the passages will either advance you towards the reward or farther so enter with caution.

The reward for those who managed to pass the monsters and traps will be a king's ransom (and when I say king's ransom, I expect around 25 to 50k gold, not the kind dropped by manifestations glare.gif )

The purpose of this dungeon is Teamwork, hunter disable traps, those high in environment will be able to lead well (did I mention there will be some rooms filled with a fog that will not be gusted away?), warriors defending the group, healers will provide the healing (duh!), etc.

No hunting companions will be allowed, flying will also be disabled, tesseracting will also be disabled and so is teleporting (the only way to get out is to find a gem or some sorts in one of the chests and it'll bring you back at the entrance)...
So what about it? Comments and violent reactions are welcome. smile.gif

Who built it? What for?

Good question, guess I need to check the background of the idea if it's Lusternian... anyone wanna fill this up? doh.gif

I actually like the idea of a more traditional "dungeon" that has guildskills used against the players in combination with agro creatures. It sounds like the type of thing that the admin would say is in the opposite direction that Lusternia is headed, but it's still a fun idea.

The only thing, is instead of having a dungeon made just for the purpose of having a bunch of gold at the end seems a little weird. Especially a chest that refills itself. Alternately if there was something for in line with the game's history, like maybe a book outlining the process of raising a Vernal god, which unfortunately is partially eaten so we don't have the whole picture, then it would make more sense for the builders to have constructed an ever changing death trap.

Really? Lusternia seems to be all about the minigames - village revolts, wildnodes, miniatures, aetherspace, and the honors quests (more of those than any other IRE game, I think?) being the main ones. I don't see how the general idea is "in the opposite direction that Lusternia is headed."

Hmm... so probably an event? If such a book will exist in the end of the dungeon then we have to make this very hard because who ever gets to the book first will be able to have a chance to raise excl.gif a vernal god!

EDIT: Or probably not since the book is partially eaten, decayed or whatever that half of it's contents are gone

Well you could actually explain it away fairly easily with the right event.
An elder who always enjoyed a challenge could have created such a maze blocking certain abilities and having a shifting nature as to present a new set of obstacles each time.

Said elder could return and open the maze to mortals, modifying the maze to offer something. (Blessing or something)

The maze could also exist somewhere in aetherspace as an instable bubble, disappearing and being reshaped... perhaps when someone solves it, that would also prevent tesseracting and any form of communication with the outside world.
Shorlen2006-06-12 17:52:08
An aetherbubble with the honors quest being a randomly generated maze (similar to the rockeater tunnels, but more complex) isn't so farfetched. Adding in randomly placed traps isn't so hard either, I'd think - you just have a set of traps, and randomly place them like items are placed for other honors quests. Toning down your suggestion turns it into a perfectly normal and valid quest like so many others in Lusternia already.

That might not be quite what you were suggesting, but it IS viable.

Oooooooh, this is getting somewhere... cool.gif
ferlas2006-06-12 20:56:59
I like the idea of a team based bashing/quest area basically.
Diamondais2006-06-12 21:06:22
Be nice if it was available to everyone though, like it has a portal or some gateway that allows you to enter from Prime so everyone has a fair chance at getting to it. Yet some block so those who arent capable of handling said obsticals is blocked from it. Level barrier perhaps or some such thing. This is if its on an aetherbubble, so still able to enter from aetherspace and the prime gate/portal.

An enterance like the enterace to the catacombes would suite me, just make it so hard that if you go in on your own you like get instantly beaten, you just need a team to be able to survive in anyway. And you could put in artifact like quest rewards that last for a limited time, I recall being able to get wings in achaea and wings are like a cubix so its pretty good.

What I meant, thanks for making it easier to understand. smile.gif

Instanced dungeons should be left where they belong, in WOW and D&D.

Lusternia doesn't need to waste their time on this

/agree, persistent areas is one of the better things about Lusternia

Actually, I would love to see something like an instanced dungeon in aetherspace. There could be twenty or so random assortments of rooms and special monsters floating around - they would represent the various unaccounted for aether bubbles that are always coasting around, forming and dissolving. Dock at one, hop out, and go exploring. Could be special objects lying around - nothing too powerful, but nifty stuff.
Alaskar2006-06-13 02:40:50
Perhaps it could be an event, kind of like wildnodes, where the winning city gains an increase in power, or something. Maybe a book describing an Ancient Ritual which will produce power for the city/commune?
Unknown2006-06-13 04:53:19
Sounds Aetherspacy. I like.
Unknown2006-06-13 13:32:52
LFG Lower Shallach! Need tank, healer, got plenty of DPS.

Shudder, shudder. As far as my inner powergamer would appreciate instanced places with free gold/exp without being bothered by others (jumping or bashing out before I do), I do not think it's a good idea.
Unknown2006-06-13 13:55:10
I was getting the idea that this wasn't supposed to be "instanced" in a general sence. The original post specifically refered to having competing adventurers searching for gold as part of the inherent obstacles. The impression I received was that this would be an off-Prime free-for-all where it would be socially acceptable to hinder/slay opposing teams that are hunting at the same time.

The only instanced part was that the actual construction of the area changes regularly.
