Roleplay logs

While visiting the Aetolia boards a while back, I noticed that they had a roleplay logs subsection of their forums, where people could post logs of roleplay scenes for others to read.

The primary advantage of such a forum is that it would encourages the posting of RP logs, allowing others to see more into the roleplay of the game, sharing particularly interesting or moving moments.

The primary disadvantage of such a forum is that metagaming happens, and the information posted could change IC views of a person, giving people insights into characters that their characters shouldn't have.

I am wondering what other people thing about this. I personally would love it, and would think it would be a positive influence to Lusternia in the same way that the "Idiots" board is a negative influence, encouraging roleplay and interest in the game.

I think the votes speak for themselves for now.
Shiri2006-06-13 13:34:59
Hmm, looks like I'm the only person who voted no. Oh well.
Unknown2006-06-13 13:36:20
Shiri doesn't like the idea because he gets picked at on EVERY opportunity. And RP logs would show that off. biggrin.gif
Shiri2006-06-13 13:40:57
unsure.gif Well, there's that too.

But while I'm usually not one for the "take it in game" shouts (usually concerning debates and stuff), people posting logs of roleplay usually just comes off as dramatic to me, which I can take since it's obviously not aimed at me, but the whole thing just kind of seems unnecessary. I'm not sure it would be a positive influence, either. You might get happier responses instead of arguments, but let's face it, the RP people are going to post isn't always going to be stellar...you know what I mean, having seen all those horrible descs in those threads. I'm not convinced.

I remember having the first thread in Aetolia's rolepay log sub-section. It was exactly what Shiri described. Overly dramatic, not a representation of your entire character, and leads to people coming IC and going "Yeah, and yu mad the Senty GM tear of yur wings." "Sorry, what? Who -are- you?" "Oh i red yor roleplay log in the 4ums."

If I didn't think this would happen, I would be behind the idea. But because it does, I don't think it's so great.

I posted no because i like to spoil other people's fun.

Learn combat, it's fun

I like the idea for one reason only... there are too many of those posts in general, and its nice to organize things better so you can find them more easily.

Put in a Self-Affirmation subforum while you are at it.

And rather then having a massive quotes thread where you can't find a damn thing... how about a quotes forum or subforum?

Erm... We would be completely congested with 0 reply threads, or threads with the only replies being: " biggrin.gif ", " roflmao.gif ", " laugh.gif " and the occaisonal " wub.gif "

I voted yes, by the way. It would give the newbies who read the forums inspiration for their characters, and give us all a chance to see how eachother RPs in action.

So? Similar quotes could go into similar threads. At least I'd at least be able to find things I find amusing... and you would actually be able to reply since it wouldn't be lost amongst the quotes like the current system.

I think it'd be less annoying to read, and easier in general. Only thing I'd think would have to be modified, is that those threads don't show up when you hit view new posts, and you'd actually have to go to the subforum.

Furthermore, they wouldn't be limited to just funny quotes either.
Daganev2006-06-13 18:27:37
go ahead, make a thread called Serenwilde quotes:

there is a subforum for it allready.

Post quotes, stories and other humour here! Doesn't count toward total posts.

I think this is a good idea, it would help encourage roleplay and stuff like that.
Forren2006-06-13 20:45:43
I think it would be good. It's like Combat Logs and Combat.
Anisu2006-06-13 20:46:32
I don't like it because people will use information from the logs ICly.

As if that doesn't already happen with combat logs?

what IC thing are you exactly going to take from a combat log besides that guy beat that person? A bit of tactics at most, more likely curing system modifications which are acquired oocly anyway.

I agree entirely with both of these is the problem sad.gif
Everiine2006-06-13 21:15:03
For these, I wouldn't put things that affect things IC. For example, when Everiine's brother healed his wing, that would be good. It was some of the best RP I'd done. Or the Serenguard vision quests, since they are RP would be good, and those don't affect anyone.

Putting the RP stuff that happened during the last event in Serenwilde? I probably wouldn't put that.
Unknown2006-06-13 21:22:23
Simple answer: Anyone that would be fool enough to put sensitive info on the forums probably wouldn't have any really great RP to show off anyway. happy.gif
But they might think the RP is good enough to put on...
