Right, so over the past several months I've been getting more interested and curious about the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) again. Just last night I was talking with an old friend from high school and mentioned it, as she'd been looking into it years ago as well. So she and I were considering looking into it more seriously together (since I haven't been seeming to have much success tempting Zenji's interest and I'm too pathetically shy to feel comfortable trying to get involved in something like that alone).
I'm just curious if anyone is or has been involved in the SCA at all, and if they'd care to share any ideas, stories, etc. Or if anyone else is curious but hasn't looked into it either.

I have a friend who is big into SCA. She is a very hardcore RPer. Think of SCA as a MUSH which also intersects or has a branch which is a combat-style LARP. Some are very militant about trying to be as historically accurate as possible in terms of dress, etc.
They basically spend the entire year RPing and getting ready for a Ren Fair. (At least that's what it seems like my friend does.)

Did you post this in the Aetolia forums as well, or was that someone else who just decided to post on the same day as you?

I think one of the aspects I've heard about SCA that interests me most, outside of the real-life roleplay bit (no, I've never done a LARP), is what I've heard of research/experimentation/recreation of the past. In undergrad, I took a minor in European history because that's been one of the things I've always been interested in. Besides, I think it'd be easier to tell the unenlightened that you're doing historical reinactment than to tell them you're roleplaying.
Since I like sewing, one of the things I've been looking at in my interest again has been information about making period clothing. A few years back I made some garb to have an outfit for the Ren Faire but, while being fun to wear, it also wasn't period-accurate. Impressions I've gotten ... that's fine for a Ren Faire but less so for SCA events. Not that I'd mind making some more, better clothing, as it's fun!

Heathen! Stop being distracted over there and come back here! In other words, no it wasn't me. Only other IREness I've done was Achaea a little bit ages and ages ago (around when Caer Witrin came out).

It's always a shock when I realize just how long I played Achaea. Caer Witrin is recent.
