Isn't it nice when quests give out something more than gold and experience?
Since our system isn't compatible to giving out items, I've always liked the occasional blessing. However, because we had so many attribute buffs in the past, we always leaned towards direct increases in health/mana/ego. However, now that we've turned to the weighted system of attribute buffs, I'm wondering if it wouldn't make sense to instead to convert quest blessings to attribute buffs.
The same thought goes to astrology. Rather than directly increasing health/mana/ego, why not change to con/int/char buff modifiers (i.e., weighted buffs)? Remember, these buffs are now weighted and capped.
Just some randoming musing. Comments welcome.

Doesn't astrlogy allready do that?
As for quests, it can never hurt. Just make sure the buffs last longer than it takes to do the quest

No more int buffs, please. Or give str/dex buffs in addition to con buffs.

One of the things I always thought was cool were little things like the snake skin cloak in Aetolia (or Achaea?) that let you fly temporarily, and the necklace thing from the sharks (I think it was waterbreathe, but I'm not sure). Even if you can't give items that imbue the effects, would it be possible to have quests that give temporary abilities. Nothing that would be horribly upsetting, just nifty things to have for a while.
Unknown2006-06-20 21:42:53
Yeah, quests should give interesting temporary items or abilities (not overpowering) instead of buffs again and again. There's enough of those.
Vix2006-06-20 22:04:58
Make some quest to allow people to fly for a short while!
Unknown2006-06-20 22:18:27
Of course it was always fun when the cloak decayed and you broke your legs. Or fell into enemy city guards.
I would really like to have a temporary burrowing ability.

I liked how you could get the wings which was the cubix equilivant through quests in achaea, also the unique items you got from the hunting grounds in aetolia are pretty fun as well.
Vix2006-06-20 22:22:35
I'd rather not give everyone wings/cubices like that. Forget flying, let's get something original! Like a hamster world where you can get a pet hamster.
Ildaudid2006-06-20 22:24:20
If they cant top the +5 with the weight buffs, would that make them stackable to to get to cap? I want wings. I also would like to see if that happens like random stat buffs... like maybe cats will give str int cha one time and dex con another time... I dunno
Sylphas2006-06-20 22:51:08
Why would you fly over an enemy city with the cloak?
Things like that would be awesome. Burrowing, flying, sprinting would be easy enough to give out. Maybe quests (not top of the line quests, maybe midlevel) to give tumble or focus mind for an hour, doable once a day. Stuff that middling combatants might not have and want to try for a bit, but giving it out isn't going to overpower anyone.

Thats the thing there was only ever one set of wings/cubix out at the time and their decay time was like 30 months or something. I think. It was a complicated quest to get them anyway so it was worth it. Now I think about it they werent like the cubix they were more like the prism, they were like the little version of the wings/cubix only to the lower fulcrux/clounds. There was also a unique pet/mount you could get for a while but I cant remember that exactly a gryphon or something by collecting the huming birds meh cant remember it exactly but it was pretty nice.
Saran2006-06-21 00:02:01
The gryphon thing took you to three different forests and took ages, then you get the gryphon for a little while not really worth it unless you have druids/sylvans in each of the forests to make it easy
Sylphas2006-06-21 00:04:28
Or if you've done Forestwalking and know them and the ways to them like the back of your hand. Lazy bums.
Saran2006-06-21 00:12:01
it's like ithmia, the west one and an island, after finding an item which is traded to a creature.
Read things in the right order and get a cage from another person, find each bird (i'm not sure if you had to return each time), then give them to some guy and on top of that I don't think it's actually an honours you only get a temporary mount.

No honours. And there are two quests actually, I believe, one for a live gryphon, one for an undead gryphon. It's really not that hard unless you get unlucky with the birds. Didn't have to return each time, just when you had them all.

Maybe a percentage chance to give the increased buffs for quests in aetherbubbles.. or perhaps as the reward when NEW aetherbubbles come out. *is hopeful*

Estarra is talking about the passive ones that Astrologers themselves get. They get a % raise to health, mana, and ego at different times of the year.

I have to agree with the utility skill idea... I think that is the best sort of bonus a quest could give without going overboard.
