15.3.1 SECOND CHARACTERS
Second characters (and beyond) in Lusternia are allowed, but a higher
standard for roleplaying will generally be imposed upon those who play
multiple characters. Furthermore, using one for the purpose of helping the
other is not allowed.
There is no limit to the number of characters you may create and play in
Lusternia as long as you observe these two rules:
1) only one character at a time in the realms (see HELP MULTIPLAYING)
2) no character may ever help any other character in ANY WAY.
Example: this means that you can't create a character, gather a bit of gold
and/or equipment, then drop it all, leave the realms, and bring in another
character to pick up the loot.
The usual punishment for this is quite severe - loss of one or both characters
through permanent shrubbing or erasure being quite common.

So... if I were to make a few alts for the sole purpose of getting credits for their mentor, who would be one single person, would that be a violation? I wouldn't be asking the mentor to transfer them to me, since I want that particular mentor to have them so they can trans/buy stuff.
My main character and this mentor do know each other quite well, so I was wondering if this would be seen as an indirect way of helping myself somehow. Not sure where the line is drawn here, so any help / answers is appreciated. Also, this is posted in the Idiots section cause it's probably a fairly dumb question
Vix2006-06-24 00:41:10
Well, if you want to help the person, you could just give him/her the credits directly to trans/buy stuff.
Unknown2006-06-24 00:41:42
I'm a bit confused, why create an alt to get this mentor friend credits, why not transfer credits from your main to them?
Edit: Vix, the extraordinaire!
Unless you're trying to be discrete about it… Then again, if you were I doubt you'd ask about it on the forums, as this is about as public as you can get.

Because mentors get about 10-15% off their proteges, so I figure that would kinda leave me less to have to give to them
Vix2006-06-24 00:46:04
There is a credit sale going on now.
Unknown2006-06-24 00:51:41
oh, so that Lusternia provides the bonus to the person, and you get to keep all what you paid for.
Sounds like what people used to do before the bound credit system came into effect. I'm honestly not sure of the legality of it now.

Oh god, don't remind me... It's tempting, like cake, but you know you have to eat ham instead, because ham keeps you alive, while cake is just good looking, and sweet and yummy. But then the cake becomes twice as big, and the ham twice as small, and you're thinking, "What flavor is that cake?" "Maybe just one bite..."
I blame my sister for making chocolate fudge cupcakes.
Edit:I'm also wondering why this is on the 'idiots' forum.

Hrm, even with the sale, there isn't much left over with the arti's I wanted to get, and this mentor needs a bunch of runes. I guess if it's not okay to make alts for this, I could spare some. Thanks.
Edit: It's in the idiots cause I feel dumb for asking about it

Doesn't seem technically illegal... Have to get an official admin response.

I'm pretty sure Estarra said that creating an alt to buy credits, thus getting a mentor friend a bonus, is allowed.
Might want to check with support@lusternia.com, just in case.

They're butter recipe yellow cake, with chocolate fudge icing, silly. And if you're going to blame me, I can always hide the rest.
Back on topic ... even if this isn't a technical violation, it'd still feel to me rather like ... alright, how to put it nicely?
Basically, you want to use the system to make it give out credits that otherwise would not be given? Even with the wonderful benefit of extra credits from the credit sale, it's not enough and you want more free ones. The alts would have no purpose other than to give aforementioned individual-friend bonus credits from using the mentor/protege system in a way that the mentor isn't being a mentor and the protege isn't being a protege.
It's not something I personally would do, even if it's allowed because of some gray area. Something I might want to do, sure ... I'm human aren't I? It's part of that "human nature" bit to want more, want more, want more.

The mentor bonus on Achaea got nerfed because so many people were taking advantage of it in such a fashion :/

Ok, think about it mathematically.
If it was even legal, let's assume you take your hundred-dollar purchase and split it up amongst five alts so they could each give mentor bonus. Each purchase would be $20 worth.
One hundred-dollar purchase gets you 300 credits.
One twenty-dollar purchase gets you 40 credits. Five would get you 200.
You would lose 100 credits in the process of splitting up the order. Also, your mentor would lose a proportional number of credits. The only way this would be worth it is if your purchase was so huge that it would exceed the maximum number of credits a mentor can gain from a single protege, AND they gave you back the (massive amount of) credits you would have lost in the process of splitting it up.
MATH FTW.

Blastron - I'd assume this is because the person has already exceeded the amount the mentor can get from them on their main character. And why would you buy purchases on separate alts, instead of just one?
Ildaudid2006-06-24 02:34:46
No she is not trying to bypass the mentor/protegee max.... She was saying she has an alt. Her alt is mentor'd to someone who she is OOC friends with. She is thinking about or going to make a credit purchase and thought that somehow someone would consider this helping seconds? I personally don't see how it is... but if you make an alt for the sole purpose to bypass the max mentor/protege thing yea I guess that isn't right in itself. Either way just so you have some more to complain about... I have an alt... I buy credits with him/her and my buddy is her/his mentor... yeah he gets credits from the purchase... and no he doesn't give them back to me... so am I abusing help seconds??? I don't think so... but to each thier own I guess.
Reiha, do what you want I would say unless told by Estarra or someone that this is absolutely unacceptable... I still won't divorce you and wow I wish I was your mentor!!!

You are allowed to make alts. Your alt is allowed to buy credits. OOC credits can be transferred, they're still OOC credits, and go from character to character.
The mentor bonus got nerfed because mentors were transferring the bonus back to their proteges, which is silly- mentors get the bonus for THEMSELVES.

I was going to buy the max per alt and I thought the mentor/protege credit bonus had a limit. I guess I can stick to one. Anyways, I will e-mail support later, thanks for yer responses.

There is a limit. It's on the first 1000 credits the protege buys, so 150 credits max bonus (or up to 5 purchases, whichever comes first).
