The best 10 years of gaming.
As was pointed out on Slashdot, they missed '98 which had Ocarina of Time, Half-life, and Starcraft, but I still thought this was interesting.
I'm only 17, so I came into video games towards the middle/end of the NES era, but I still remember a large majority of these. It kinda brings back the nostalgia of playing Kings Quest and Gabriel Knight on my old 3.1 machine.
What were your favourite landmarks of gaming?

Going to bed in a minute, and lagging so can't read that article, but THE landmark (where I really got into gaming) was FF7 point.
Unknown2006-06-28 14:54:51
Agree with Shiri. Not everyone considers FF VII to be the greatest game of all times, but it was certainly the one which had the biggest impact on video game industry at least in the last 10 years. Hence, 1997's the landmark.

Simon the Sorcerer, Day of the tentacle, Sam&Max, Alone in the Dark on the RPG side.
Sonic the Hedhedog in arcade, I still play it on emulators nowa nd then.
Also, those first VGA games that sucked but OMG they had 256 colors!!

I remember when Mario 3 was new and I thought the suits you could use were so awesome. The original Zeldas too where you had to fight Horsehead or wander through that pixel-ish desert.
Then SNES came out with Street Fighter 2. I can't believe I was content with the speed of the fighting back then. Sega Channel was insanely awesome too. 50 games for a small fee every month? It was like all the parents prayed hard and their wishes came true. Ys, baseball games when Bo Jackson was still around, Zombies Ate My Neighbors??
And eww.. all you FFVII babies need to go back a few years and appreciate the older games. Earthbound, Brainlord, and even Secret of Evermore were the games back in the day (The Phantasy Star series was awesome too. Haven't seen many sci-fi RPG types since). Does anyone else remember the big ass box Earthbound came in with the scratch and sniff cards and the FREE walkthrough?
XD I even remember some old Dos games like Jill of the Jungle and this little talking parrot I used to think was the coolest thing ever.
Sorry, I'm really just writing as things pop to mind so this post may come off extremely random.

Duuuude! Wii is getting a new Earthbound game (Or I think it's a remake of the one we never got) and it looks awesome!
I miss Earthbound though and all the number puns. Onett, Twoson, Threed, Fourside.. RUNAWAY FIVE!

Go go Psi Pizza!
Unknown2006-06-28 17:20:27
XD You named it Pizza? I forget mine. I think I went with Boxing.
Dude, that was like 10 years ago and I still remember all of this. I need to finish school and get in the business or something.

You're not the only one. I never did get that bat from the Starman DX or whatever it was.
Edit: Just glancing through the article.. I totally forgot about the gigantic super scope!

You can love the older stuff and still adore FFVII, you know.
Haven't seen much that can beat Seiken Densetsu 3 yet. They need to translate the bastard for the Wii so more people can revel in its glory.

Chrono Trigger was the best... even if it was before 97'

I don't really consider 2005 too big of a year for gaming. Sure, 360 was released, but the most we heard about that was the lack of them.
I remember Super NES's Mario Kart. And Super Mario World.
And FFII, now IV.
Gods those were the days, sure Blockbuster rentals were three days, but I always manged to get the best of it.

It's always been FFIV. They just didn't think Americans were astute enough to grasp that II and III were never released here. It's annoying to no end.

I know.
...FFIV is where I learned the word bastard... That game IS my childhood.

I don't get it what people like in FF IV. I found the plot very cliche, most characters were either annoying or useless (exceptions: Kain, Cid, Edge), and random combats were really awful.
Mmm, Earthbound. I am not sure what illegal substance was influencing the creators, but the effect was great.
Annoying Old Party Man started ranting about today's youth!
Ness's guts dropped by 3 points!

Its cliche if you play it now because it was copied for the next few years But when it first came out, it really couldn't have been cliche.. since FFIV pretty much jumpstarted the RPG trend that reached America.
