Would someone please look over this?
I have poor timing in-game. Whenever I asked for a proofreader on the guild aetherwave, something else came up on the city aetherwave.
A Theory on Roberto the Giant Clam
-----
In the Icy Depths of the Inner Sea, a giant clam lies by a thermal vent. Carved into a marble slab is the name, 'Roberto'. This theory attempts to explain Roberto's unique existence.
A large population of clams exists today in tidal flats of the Toronada River. It is not unreasonable to assume that clams existed before and during the Taint Wars. Other mollusks of the sea that exist today, the squid, were mentioned in the Memoirs of Lolly Pringle. Captain Vlath Symfale mentioned "Tainted squid" in the southern part of the sea.
When the Cloud of Magnagora spread, the clams in the tidal flats could have been affected as well. Quoted from the Minutes of the Hallifax Board of Governors, the "more common effect of the Taint is a radical restructuring of the victim’s physiology including, but not limited to, an increase in size and weight". This would explain Roberto's drastic deviation from his cousins.
The meat of these abnormally large clams would have attracted their natural predators, the starfish, seagulls, and pelicans. Some clams may have escaped by the shifting tides, prying them from the sands as the waters drew back into the sea.
Clams also require sustenance. They filter water for particles of algae and other nutrients. This diet might have been difficult to glean in the depths of the Inner Sea. Requiring a larger amount of food than usual, the clams would have died.
Roberto, however, came to rest by a thermal vent. In addition to the chalk white substance it produces, the vent also produces minerals from below the sea floor, combining with fluids that the vent issues forth. This would have been enough to sustain a growing giant clam. Over time, algae and plant-life would grow on this clam. This plant-life would sustain small sea creatures, giving Roberto the appearance he has today.
When Pringle asked Captain Vlath Symfale why the northern part of the Crystal Sea remained free of the Taint, Captain Symfale replied, "Thems that think the Great Spirits you folks take stock in only lives in the forest, but, aye, there's some spirits that live in the sea too, protecting her waters." Translating this broken Common, Captain Symfale was speaking of Spirits protecting the sea from the Taint. It is possible that these Spirits were able to cleanse the Taint from Roberto, but not revert him back to his original physiology.

Sounds good, though Im no judge about spelling, it does look good.
And it seems like it could be true..though youre the first Ive heard to wonder about how Roberto came to be..

Clam chowder?
As in Quahog dumped Tainted clam chowder into the sea and it mutated into Roberto?

The 'spirits of the sea' are the Kelpies, which are a type of Fae.

Ah. I was wondering why Queen Maeve could command them.
How about:
-----
Translating this broken Common, Captain Symfale was speaking of the fae Kelpies protecting the sea from the Taint.
Kelpies today often request seashells to make necklaces for the Princes of the Sea. These protect dolphins for approximately one month. This would suggest two ideas. Firstly, Kelpies have the ability to keep the Taint from affecting creatures, although they cannot revert a living, Tainted creature back to his original form. Secondly, this power of protection from the Taint can be imbued in shells.
As Roberto himself is a bivalue, the Kelpies could have imbued both his shells with this power. This may be why the Kelpies were able to cleanse the Taint from Roberto, but not revert him back to his original physiology.

Is there a way to acknowledge people who contributed OOCly, or does it all have to be ICly?

I make a mean kelpie salad
Roberto makes me hungry. Yum yum.
Otherwise, not bad at all. What's a bivalue?

A bivalve is a kind of mollusc that includes things like clams and oysters, with two-part shells.
