Erm, yah. I know there's an xbox thread somewhere around here, but I decided to make my own thread about a particular game coming out: Huxley
Basically, it's the largest MMOFPS, in terms of world size and server limit, so far. The servers themselves (at least the three that they have already posted information on) support twice the population of the heaviest played WoW servers currently around. And Microsoft and Webzen claim that with the load structure of the world, there should be next to no lag.
Anyway, check it out, it looks pretty cool. It's one of the three reasons I'm putting money into a 360 soon. When it comes out (late this summer they say) I'll be looking to form a clan, and figured I might be able to round up some interested folks here.
EDIT: And here's the developers' site. Meh.

O_O
Whoooaaah. That looks amazing.

Oh, to clarify, it is on PC and PS3 as well. Microsoft is just doing alot to promote it in the US for 360, and seems to be the sugardaddy of an otherwise unknown game. That, plux I already know for a fact that the Unreal Engine is very glitchy on XBOX, so I hope I'll be able to get some bounce/ride glitches and have fun cheating for the first couple months.

Looks like it could be pretty cool.
Shamarah2006-07-03 19:00:54
Could be interesting. I heard Planetside sucked, so hopefully this doesn't turn out like that.
Richter2006-07-03 21:11:18
Hrm, never heard of it. Not to derail the topic, but I'm really waiting for Prey, Gears of War, Halo 3, and 99 Nights. Maybe I'll pick up Huxley as well.
Edit: Oh, wait, this is based off of Brave New World? I hated that book! (granted, I was in 10th grade, and I hated the whole class)

I think the whole Brave New World thing is really a bunch of BS. Don't see how they could fit guns in a post apocalyptic world and make it seem like a dystopian novel where everyone is too busy having sex to shoot each other.
I'm reading that book for eschool as we speak actually; it blows.
Yah, Halo 3 and Gears of War are the other two reasons I'm getting a 360.

Heathen. Philistine. That book is amazing.
This game, however, makes no sense. How the heck do you make an FPS out of a book about mindless, shallow hedonism as the cure for all of man's ills?
Richter2006-07-04 21:44:47
You know, that makes more sense as a mud than an mmofps. Orgy porgy!

The written detail and the craftsmanship of the book are horrid.
And besides that, a drug/sexually maintained dystopia is impossible to the scale that Huxley presents. The mild, hallucinogenic, effective depressant of Soma (even if it were a wonder drug with no real after effects) still leaves people visibly wearied/incapacitated after use. Sex... well... same thing. The quantity of the two that is being abused in the novel, and to the extent shown, would (regardless of psychological conditioning and all that other physiological engineering bull) slow down the whole of society to a completely unproductive, useless state. And then there's the consumerism, floating right in the face of it...
In my opinion, Brave New World is the worst engineered/written dystopian novel currently in existence. But that's just me.
And again, I don't really think the game is based on it at all.

Well, the book was written before consumerism was a serious and obvious issue with modern society, back in the days when sex and drugs DID solve everything. In the novel, the upper castes weren't productive, that was entirely the point. The bottom castes did all the work, and they were socially engineered to think they liked doing all the work.

This looks great, maybe it will finally be an MMO that actually takes some skill and practice to play.
Acrune2006-07-08 04:46:38
Hmm, $400 xbox, $50 for live, $60 a game, probably $15 a month for this game. Things add up fast, don't they?
Edit: video finally loaded. Looks neat, but not really my thing, I don't think.

I don't think there's going to be a monthly charge. I know alot of the MMO's coming out on 360 claim to not do it.
And yes, finally an MMO where bashing your life away isn't a requirement for greatness! I'm just gonna sit around with a sniper rifle and get those choice kills! Yay!

If there's no monthly fee, I might give it a shot. I can part with $60 on a game I might not like. Refuse to pay month fee for things

Is this a bad time to point out the only reason it's called 'Huxley' is because that's the name of a scientist who plays a major role in the plot, and he only has that name because it sounded properly 'Western' to the korean developers?
Unknown2006-07-08 21:26:05
It's an alright book. Disliked the ending; pretty much disliked the last third or so of it, actually. But I found it interesting, overall, however feasible it may or may not be.
P.S. Halo 3... eugh.
