It's not too often I post in this section, but I really don't know any good forums for this so I figure maybe one of you guys have some tips for me. Or if you know a good website for this then please message me.
I decided to celebrate Independence Day by taking my new Ruger 10/22 to the firing range and practicing on some targets with Osama bin Laden printed over them. Fun!! It's my very first rifle! And I'm hoping to deck it out with some fun accessories. Anyone out there familiar with some of the Ruger 10/22 accessories?
Three items I had in mind were... First is some sort of replacement for the magazine release. That recessed button is just too annoying. There are several models of releases that hang low like a trigger, which seems preferable. Anyone have suggestions for a good brand for this? I also am attracted to the ProMag 50 round drum magazine and the MWG 50 round teardrop magazine. Does anyone know if these are any good and if they have steel lips instead of cheap plastic lips? Lastly, anyone know if the GAT trigger enhancer is any good? I know that the other Hellfire products are total garbage if you want to actually hit a target, but this one looks a little more promising. I'm thinking this plus the large magazines would make for some good backyard fun with a large watermelon.
Thanks!
-Roark.
PS - No making fun of it being a wimpy .22. It's quiet, and I don't want to damage my hearing!
PPS - Rifles are for adults. Kids: stay away.

The Hellfire trigger would be kind of scary for you... pretty much fully auto then

Anyways... I am not sure I should tell a God to make his gun fully automatic.... that may lead to a lot of destruction but hey just don't point it at me please.

Not exactly. What the Hellfire does is put a spring on the trigger so that when it recoils, the spring hits your trigger finger. (This is assuming that you are not holding the gun sturdy against your shoulder and instead are just holding it loosely.) This spring causes the gun to bounce backwards towards you, which in turn cauzes the trigger to get smooshed by your finger. The subsequent shot then makes it recoil, repeating the above process over and over. That only works if you do not hold the rifle securely so that it has leaway to bounce around. The end result is that it sprays bullets randomly about. Videos of it usually show people shooting from the hip because you can't aim it from the shoulder at all, and if you watch carefully you will see the barrel bouncing around like crazy. Shooting from the hip is pretty worthless to begin with, but a bouncing barrel makes it even dumber. The actors clearly are just spraying bullets but not actually aiming or hitting anything. It's a gimic that makes you look all scary like Rambo but really makes hitting the broad side of a barn quite a challenge. Plus since you have the hold the gun loosely I'd be afraid of it bouncing out of my hands and shooting it a totally random direction completely opposite where I was aiming! Not cool.

Ahh you do have a point there. Last thing I would like to see is a gun bouncing out of someones hands and discharging somewhere radom.
Oh I checked out the teardrop MWG-50 it has a steel lip.. I couldn't tell if the drum had one or not tho.
Says: MWG 10/22 Magazine, 50 Round, Teardrop shape with steel lips for long life
Here is a link to a nice close up of it too

I wouldn't pimp a .22 But, eitherway all the stuff looks good but the hellfire, that isn't safe/effective. Especially if you wanna hunt something like rabbit, cat, partridge ect.
EDIT: Also changing your release isn't simple at all, your best bet is to go talk to a gunsmith with the .22 because sometimes it can't be done.
