I'm so sorry for doing this-- I know you must get a lot of noobs like me asking dumb questions on this forum, but I just didn't feel like bothering the good people on the Newbie channel with a long question like this.

First off, do the widgets/chains I give to the finks and gnomes reset if I use the portals? I seem to remember it taking much less than six widgets to open the portal. How many should it take?

Who should I give rivets to?

And are there any areas other areas that I can safely quest/bash in as a level <10? I've been trying to go through the portals for a while now, and am considering giving up on them in favor of a less constrained place.

Also, if anyone has any advice on properly playing a trill, it would be great.

Assuming you mean the Iron and Golden portals in the Caverns, the widgets/chains required resets when the corresponding portal closes. The number depends on how many you give at one time, and if anyone else has given widgets/chains recently.

It should tell you if the hints are still on. I believe its HINTSON to turn them back on, but I don't remember exactly.

There are rats in the cities and weevils in the forests. HELP RATS has more information.

For those under level 21 its best to remain in the Caverns to hunt, though I know quite well how clogged it gets its really the only -safe- place for you. You could try rats/weevils but they can be mighty evil at times.

As to the widget/chain question, no, they survive through the Portals but they do have a fast decay rate which you cant see.

~I meant the "divine rescue" portals. Does the amount of chains/widgets I already gave to the NPCs stay if I portal away from the area?

~Eh, the second one was a stupid question.

~I've done this. It's probably even less exciting, but thanks.

Using PORTALS just moves you - doesnt reset the count. In fact, you could have a bunch of different people hand in widgets, and it wouldn't reset the count.

I would say venture further into the smoke mountain area - once you get through the portal, theres actually quite a lot to explore.

If you're playing a warrior, the key is to be a stubborn censor.gif and to be careful tongue.gif Basically, direct combat with people who like to do a lot of damage = bad. Oh yeah, and you have to be a goofball at least 60% of the time, because that's how Trill are. For my closing comment, being -patient- really helps too. Run away if you have to, that's what your wings are for. And how I survive on astral with no problems aside from twits linkflooding a sphere... grr.

And for your question regarding the rivets... it's a sorta miniquest, but you might consider who it might remind of home....
