"Portal" Trailer at Youtube.com
I am not sure what to say, it tooks me watching it a few times to wrap my head around it, such a novel concept. I especially liked the part where he was chasing himself around the portals on the corner... It's going to ship when Half Life 2: Episode 2 does.
It's kind of like they designed a new weapon for Half Life 2, then thought "Screw that, we can make a entirely NEW game based on just this one concept, why waste it on just a small role in Half Life." Crazy though.
Edit: Ah it apparently is shipping WITH Halfe Life 2: Episode 2... and is in that game as well but they spun it off into a separate game.

Well it's not stand alone, it ships with the real game, being Episode 2 of Half Life 2. It's an added bonus puzzle game of sorts. It'll apparently be useable in multiplayer of HL2 as well, so that could make it pretty damn interesting.

Looks pretty awesome.
Probably can't run it on this PC but.

I hope its not available in Multiplayer, or I hope the portals only stay open for a short time, because sticking people into infinite loops is NOT going to be fun for the person stuck.
Hillarious for everyone else though.

Well I think that's mainly inanimate objects. You could in theory probably walk forward as you're falling and eventually hit real ground, I think they were just sitting in place for the heck of it.

Obviously it'd be balanced, and I doubt you actually get stuck when you go into a loop like that. You know how FPS games are... you can move slightly while falling in any direction, which isn't true in reality. So you'd get out.
As for him in the loop at the end of the video, he could have just shot it at the wall in front of him to be thrown out of the new portal sideways at ridiculous speeds.

Well lets just hope then that the weapon is not available in capture the flag games
It looks really cool to me, and really fun, but also really powerfull once people stop thinking of it as a novelty.

Not gunna lie, that looks pretty damn cool. Puzzle games are fun, puzzle games that look nice are better .

Meh. It's Ok, I guess.
*goes and watches trailer several dozen more times, drooling all the while*

That looks cool.
It also looks like it's going to suck out system resources like there's no tomorrow.

Actually, its been done before, by the same people... Since my computer is absolute crap, direct 3d never works for me, so I couldn't get the game to run. But its called Narbocular Drop, for anyone whos interested - you get stuck in this sentient dungeon, who can make portals to help you escape. It looks bizarre, but the same concept is in play.

Valve contacted the Narbacular drop guys and hired them because they are apparently brilliant... so now they have access to the Half Life engine to reimagine their previous work, hence Portal.

These narbacular guys really ARE brilliant. This is damn fun.

Everything I've seen come out of Digipen is incredible. I love to see people thinking about new games, instead of prettier versions of old games.
