After moving into a terrace 6 months ago, I've finally for my finances sorted enough to get the net connected! I put in my applicaiton for ADSL 2 yesterday and, all going to plan (the line being workable, the telco cooperating with the service provider, etc) I should have a connection within the next couple weeks.
No more spending my weekends at a netcafe or bludging off my poor mother for the internet. Oh and I might even cut down my personal net usage at work, if they're lucky.
So, wish me luck in that nothing goes wrong.
(BTW does $40AUS a month for 512kbps and 8 gigs sound reasonable? I can bump it up to 20 gigs for an extra $10 a month if I need to).

I don't know the exchange rate for Australian to US dollars, but a similar service here in Omaha costs US$29 a month. And...8 gigs of storage space, or data transfer? The $29 package has, like...10 e-mail addresses and 2 gig of web hosting space on their servers, unlimited data transfer.

It's 8 gigs download. Upload is unlimited, if I remember correctly. I'll double check that though.
That much US works out to be about 38 AUS, so it's not much different. Austrlian internet prices are generally more expensive than their comparitive international rates, but I think I have a fairly good deal relativly. I guess other Aussies would know for sure though.
EDIT: I checked, the upload is free/unlimited, depending on how you want to look at it. There's no surcharge on excess downloads, but your speed gets cut to 64kbps.

Ok so the modem just got delivered to my work I expect to be connected when I get home tonight.
Get excited kids, Gavin's here to cause trouble.
I'm oh so cool it hurts.
NB. "Cool" is another word for "lame" which is another word for "I've had too much coffee"

Ewww... data caps. Those sort of things only exist outside of the US. Internet providers always supply unlimited data transfer for the most part. And 512kbps isn't that fast... and since it's asymetric dsl, it's uploads are slower, probably 128kbps.
