Eager student looking for a mentor to teach me to be a fighter. I'm currently a level 35 Aquamancer. If anyone is interested in showing me the ropes, offering me advice, or just some friendly spars to practice my skills, please either post here or message me in game.

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to being your student.

This is something that's really good to ask in game, usually, since your guildmates can help you better than anyone else, and they should be eager to do so.

Ask Forren or one of the other militant types in your guild.
Bromos2006-08-21 20:08:35
I've tried. They're always too busy.

I think you should ask your guild ICly. Aquamancers have enough fighters.

But here're my words of advice:

Preparation: get all herbs (at least 20 each), potions and salves, and 3 pipes. You don't need things like merbloom or juniper, only the useful kind (all curing ones, faeleaf, kafe and sparkleberry). Ah, and get a love potion, as well as allheale and vitae. Greatrobbes are a must.
If you want to fight warriors, you'd need a shield and shieldparry in Combat, or a staff and weaponparry in Combat. You need a protection scroll and love potion to fight other demesne-users, cleanse enchantment for druids... well, get all the kinds of enchantments - waterwalk, cleanse, mercy, kingdom, perfection, diminish.

In combat, you use psionics. Tactics vary depending on whether you are a Telekinetist or a Telepath, but don't rely on Aquamancy too heavily. That is - of course, setup a demesne with all effects, but don't expect it to kill everyone just by itself. For illusions - phantoms is good, illusionary terrain to make your demesne harder to break, maybe reflections for start of the fight.
If the enemy is using protection scrolls, dissolve them. It takes you much less equilibrium than re-putting protection, and all good afflictions from the demesne (but still nothing to kill only by itself - remember) don't hit those with protection. Also learn to reject and re-enemy when the love potion hits.

And of course, you'd need a trigger system. Ethelon's free for MUSHclient, and... decent. Don't expect to kill anyone good with it, but hey - free system. Better than nothing.

EDIT: Multi-ninja! Well, ask when they are not busy. They are often fighting nowadays, raids and all.
Bromos2006-08-21 21:00:46
I have a combat system already, just need a mentor to practice with, show me what I'm doing right and wrong, etc.

You can always just spar random people (good if you can learn from your mistakes, I don't), and then either analyse the logs by your own or post them here.

Be sure to throw a few spars nows and then, or people will think you're good and won't spar you anymore. doh.gif

Don't believe you've asked me yet. I'd love to help. In a few days I'll be mostly quitting Lusternia, but I'm always around on AIM and such to help give advice.
Acrune2006-08-24 00:07:42
He just thinks he's quitting.

Why're you quitting?

For the record, dissolve takes balance and can be done off of equilibrium. This is why I was telling you there is no reason to spam protection scrolls because they can staffcast/dissolve at the same time, or do almost any other attack.
Unknown2006-08-24 00:20:59
Forren... you no quit! I shall beat you over the head if you keep going with it!!

I resigned Champ in expectation of quitting because I'm starting at my university and want to keep as much of a social life open as possible. It's hard for me to mud and not play for hours on end. I'll come on to chat and stuff though.

As far as dissolve - some people even have it triggered to dissolve upon staffblasting. They're only nice if you're not fighting the demesne-holder, really. Some people like me though forget to dissolve pretty often.

As long as you come around still I guess its better than nothing.

Level up. There is NO WAY you can actually fight at level 35.

Not all of us need 6k health, 4.5k and level 74 is fine biggrin.gif
Murphy2006-08-24 23:42:55
Most fighters can get away with only having 3 - 3.6k health. Just have to cure well and have a killer offence + the ability to run from large groups of angry enemies.

Psh. I rather have my 6k health and can stand a while against large group instead of getting ganked right away.
