I've been really impressed with the afflictions you guys are coming up with. In that vein, lets start another thread dedicated to buffs/blessings ideas that are unique!

A skill that costs 10 power to raise your guild skills by one skill for a day.

Absolutely worthless to someone who is tri-trans, and most of the time not worth it even if you're not.

A Dreamweaving skill to make people grow sleepier more slowly, perhaps? Should only affect natural tiredness, not Drowse or Deepsleep.

I really like the approach of quests that give buffs, like Catacombs, Tosha and Shallamurine, and I'd really like this trend continued, maybe extending the width of it and adding things like a special skill for a while, or a special item that, for example, makes your attacks in nature stronger, given by an old elfen druid for rescuing his grandchild or something.
Basically, if you do something hard, you should get a small or bigger buff for it, depending on how much you did. Nothing you would totally rely on, but some special boons.

Grow an extra arm. Gain extra arm balance and be able to wield 3 items.

Grow a tail, able to SWEEP people on its own balance knocing them to the ground.

I could make one of these for each limb, but I'll let you do that.

another possible buff/blessing. Power buff, cut power usage by 2/3rds.

I'll just say, be really careful in adding new buffs. With current buffs it's possible to get certain resists and other things way too high, and you have to be careful not to make 'em too powerful.
Sylphas2006-08-27 20:31:02
I still like the idea of quests that give you certain basic skills, like the snakeskin cloak from Achaea.
Shamarah2006-08-27 23:58:20
Be very careful not to put in any overpowering buffs. We DON'T need more straight stat/damage/health buffs like karma and Tosha. I'd prefer buffs and blessings of a more utility kind. For example, letting you fly and burrow, giving you gills (ie. waterbreathe), simple things like that.

Sadism - (Nihilism, Necromancy, Crow) Each time person actively causes damage to another, they have a chance to gain 5% of the amount in mana/ego.

Conscious dreaming - (Dreamweaving) While meditating person becomes less sleepier and can see phased people enter/leave.

Forestkin - (questable, Druidry) While in natural forest, you gain +1 to maximum personal power store (ie, up to 11).

Watertouched - (questable, Aquamancy) While in ocean/river, you gain +1 to personal power store.

Plagueborn - (questable, Geomancy) While in natural wasteland, natural tainted urban, you gain +1 to personal power store.

Wyrdkin - (questable, Druidry) While in wyrded woods/wyrded swamp, you gain +1 to personal power store.

Herculean efforts - (Athletics) Successful critical hits with a physical weapon will have a 50% chance to hit all other creatures of the same name in the room.

Aura of Awe - (questable) Aggressive creatures hesitate once before attacking. (Essentially blocks one initial hit by aggressive creatures.)

Sacrificial disciple - (questable) Gain one creature who will take all damage directed at you until dead. Causes heavy ongoing ego drain while they are in the room, if ego reaches zero the denizen snaps out of it and attacks you (using afflictions).

Spiritwalker's Focus - (questable) Gain an item that lasts a short time and allows you to become phased. Your body will remain awake and stationary, while you can move around in phased form. No skillsets will be available to you in this form, you cannot follow or speak to any person, and you cannot do anything aside from SCORE/STAT/LOOK/SQUINT/(move). Touching the item while in phased form will return you to your body. Both willpower and endurance will drain heavily while in phased form.

Illusionist's wand - (questable) Gain an item that has 20 charges and cannot be recharged. For one power and long equilibrium loss you can cast simple illusions in the room, consuming one charge.

The obvious ones are quests that let you temporarily gain flight, burrowing, diving, scaling, etc.

- Quest reward: An interesting creature (tengu, dragonet, flying monkey, sprite, etc) that will deliver your mail for you from anywhere as long as you have it. Stays with you until someone else does the quest.

- Quest reward: A quest that completely cures your insanity, or that gives you a vial containing the cure for insanity (a couple uses which will each decrease your insanity level by a large amount).

- Quest reward: Transplanar distortion gem - while wielded, noone in the same local area can use a cubix or prism (the point of it being an item that must be wielded is that you can see who has it and kill them).

- Quest reward: Mark of the adventurer: can DIG and twice as fast, can move one extra room per second, can climb trees, can dive, can mountaineer.

- Quest reward: Seablessed: can swim twice as fast. can waterbreathe, level 1 health/mana regen in water

Nifty ideas, but the distortion gem is WAY too powerful.

And wouldn't the person have to sacrifice wielding a weapon/cudgel/staff/shield/etc. for it, as well? Bah.

NOOOOOO not my gem, not local area. Same room maybe. Local area would be suckage.
Verithrax2006-08-28 11:31:51
Hey, what about a buff to make mages better at bashing? You can put it in Telekinesis.
Narsrim2006-08-28 11:37:46
No quest item is going to hinder my $600 cubix. I'm sorry, that's just be bad business.
Unknown2006-08-28 12:22:36
Same room, or by village discretionary power is fine.

Questable item for the whole local area... no.

Yeah, probably. Same room was my first thought, I just thought I'd throw in local area for kicks dry.gif
