I found Ysuran's thread about new guilds, the one with Ialie's rainbow guild, but I cant seem to find it now. I thought of a new skillset already and I dont want my time in thinking of this go to waste so here...

Its a skillset based on disabling skills, much like Blue mages of Magic: the Gathering, or Mesmers in Guild Wars. its just an idea so criticize anything you like. smile.gif

Blue-magey skillset (for lack of better name for it yet) tongue.gif

Aura of Knowledge

Any comments on some skills that would be either useless or overpowered?
And oh..
I know it'll be very hard to code. kiss.gif

Lore-wise, it doesn't stick.

And balance-wise, it's extremely weak, but with some horribly overpowered skills:

Memory Loss (Wheel of Fortune doesn't always lower skills, it can increase them too!)
DISTURBING FLARE
Spoil, however it'd be next to impossible to code (as it is, you can't interrupt a skill MtG-wise, it either hits or it doesn't...)
Aura of Resilience
Trauma is a griefing skill, not much combat-use

And why Seer's Vision, if the skill doesn't have a mana-based instakill or anything of that type?

Trauma: Take away target Dreamweaver's third skillset for a few hours, 10p. dry.gif

Well, Its not supposed to be an all-powerful skillset. Its designed much like Stag/Crow specialization. You can possibly kill with it, but its better if you have other skills from other skillset to aid you. Its like having Dreamweaving without Druidry/Aquamancy/Geomancy... that sort of thing.

Lore-wise, I heard Hallifax is adept at researching, composed of scholarly individuals. Perhaps this will be a valid background.

Sylphas: I didn't think about that. You are right. How about changing the trans skill to this:

TRAUMA
Traumatize
1500 mana, 8p
Damage your enemy based on the difference of his max mana to his curent mana.

Memory Loss is designed to -lower- a skillset by a percentage like that of the Wheel of Fortune, not icrease it like Wheel of Fortune does. Thats why its called memory loss doh.gif

Seer's Vision is designed to assess the target's power/mana reserves so that the skill Mana Curse would stick. If you continually use Mana Drain/Disregard/Reflection/Shield this would be possible. It would be hard, but still possible. This would be easier for warriors since they generally have lower mana than mage archetypes. For mage archetypes though, this would still be possible since the skillset's skills are designed to damage mana - something that they continually use even for attacking. Also the new trans skill Trauma would fit nicely with this. Also Disturbing flare would take out some of the abilities for a short amount of time so that would help in defense.

I thought of spoil like the Blight skill of the Shamans in Achaea. They prepare the curses and then cast it on their targets. This would then begin to afflict them automatically while the caster could do other skills to either do massive afflict, bleed them to death or prepare for obliterate. I dont know much about coding but this is what I had in mind. so if its not possible then... losewings.gif So much for counterspells.

I know it would seem weak - if you dont know how to use it. But its designed to disable till it gets the opportunity to wreak havoc. Its a skillset requiring a lot of wits to use.

Aura of Resilience only works for Mobs. Not on players.

I am honestly having much more fun in playing character classes like this. Mesmers in Guildwars, Blue mage in Magic: The Gathering, Scholar/Sage in Ragnarok. They seem to be weak but if a smart player use them they could turn the tide of battle. happy.gif

I just had it with hack and slash, cast and channel archetypes so prevalent in all MMORPGs and MUDs. smile.gif
