Looking at the poor ugly thing, I just have to think chickens weren't meant to be featherless. It's worse than those hair-less cats or the naked mole-rats.

Shocking

I don't know what to think.
I just don't understand why people care about whether or not the animal is happy - we're going to eat it soon, anyway!

I can just see the 'OMG GENETIC ENGNEERING IS PLAYING GOD DONT DO IT ITS BAD JESUS LOVES YOU' crowd screaming and hiding in their little shells over this.
Until someone gently points out this was done through selective breeding, not genetic manipulation.

My friend sent me that link after I said that the next project the gentic engineers need to get onto is to create pop corn that leaves no inedible kernal so I can eat popcorn without getting kernals in my teeth.
But yeah. I know several people who'll freak out if they see this. If I could remember their email addresses, I'd mail it to them for fun! Like the guy who absolutely believed (and might still - I haven't talked to him in years) that KFC changed its name from Kentucky Fried Chicken to KFC cause they don't use real chickens anymore - instead they use geneticly engineered creatures with no feathers, feet or beaks and because they are no longer really chickens KFC can't use the word 'chicken' in their advertising anymore. I swear I thought I'd hurt myself laughing at him when he told me that. He got all defensive and everything. "It's TRUE! IT IS!"
The bird IS ugly though!

OMG, it's a Trill!

That bird's ugly, and its kind of scary looking too. Does it really make a difference whether or not a bird has feathers or not?

It's kind of heartbreaking actually. We declaw cats just so they don't ruin our furniture, now we make featherless chickens just so that we can eat them sooner. What's next?

Suicide goats that fell on the ground when you want to kill them....
oh wait...
Sylphas2006-08-26 20:56:28
Declawing cats is an entirely different thing. It throws off their balance and lots of other things. They're going to live with that for years. These chickens are going to be killed and eaten, and aren't going to miss their feathers all that much if they're kept in a way that acknowledges their featherlessness.
Verithrax2006-08-26 21:17:57
They can't fly.
Many of them are kept in reasonably warm temperatures.
I think the chickens actually benefit from that.
