What if it were possible to gain Demigod bonuses without reaching level 100? Those who reach it via the bashing method would be known as Demigods of the Sixth Circle (awakening their own divine spark), but also...
(example)
1) Triumph in the combat rankings for at least 2 RL weeks and become a Demigod of the Second Circle (Warrior). You remain at your current level, but gain access to stat boosts, size changing, power refresh and havens. You don't access phoenix, but in its place you have a combat-leading ability... perhaps something like being able to reduce damage against allies in the room with you, or increase their damage output by a certain percentage, or something like that. Demigods of the Sixth Circle would not be eligible for this route. If you fall beneath the top 10 ranked combatants, you lose the demigod status. If you choose to reach level 100 (Sixth Circle demigod), you lose Second Circle advantages.
2) Gain a huge number of rolepoints above the average, and become a Demigod of the First Circle (Leader/diplomat). You would remain at your current level, but gain access to stat boosts, size changing, power refresh and havens. You wouldn't access phoenix or the warrior demigod ability, but instead be able to conduct room and area-wide emotes for a small powercost, as well as confer small blessings on other characters. If you fall beneath the minimum level of rolepoints, you lose your demigod status.

I'd so love this. However, rolepoints go back to the normal eventually, don't they? Lost ones regenerate, and gained ones go back down. Note also, that I've never seen anyone who's ever gained rolepoints.
Unknown2006-08-28 06:20:21
I think you'd have people complaining about the role points one, and weather the gods like them or not, and people would start believing that they've got a grudge against them.. ect ect. I know we've got enough griping over people with perma TF's vs people who have almost never seen one already, this would just be worse.
I shudder to think what giving the 10 most active PK'ers demi-god powers would be like as well...

Actually, I remember one Admin saying that every player already starts out with the maximum amount of RP points, so that system would need recoding just for this idea.
And no, you don't get a short way to divinity just because you can fight. -.-

Oh, because in Aetolia, when you gained rolepoints, you got more powers, like being able to title yourself.

It makes at least as much sense as bashing your way mindlessly to divinity.

Neither of these ideas are even remotely fair given how ridiculous the current method to achieve demigod is.
Each death takes 500,000 essence. Whereas in the above two cases along with titans right now, you can conglutinate after getting a small bit experience and maintaing it forever, demigods are screwed.
Die in a village revolt? 500,000 essence! Taken down by 5 dreamweavers in your own home city/commune? 500,000 essence! Get disconnected while bashing? 500,000 essence!
It takes roughly 200 astral creatures to equal 500,000 essence. Thus, the amount of bashing necessary to build up a buffer to not worry about it is quite large. Bear in mind, a demigod starts off with -0- essence so if you die before amassing 500k essence, you automatically lose it. Upon losing demigod, you fall to 99.0% experience.
In short, demigod sucks. Furthermore, these other methods in no way take into consideration the design: an increased form upon reaching level 99/100. That takes time. It takes devotion. Winning combat rankings does not. Combat rankings are largely a joke:
honors wallase
Ubermenche Wallase, Spirit Hunter (Male Orclach).
He is 33 years old, having been born on the 3rd of Dioni, 122 years after the
Coming of Estarra.
He is ranked 317th in Lusternia.
He is the 3rd ranked combatant with a rating of 302.
He is an extremely credible character.
He holds the position of a Hand of the Serenwilde in the Serenguard.
He is a Seeker of Avechna in the Fellowship of Explorers.
He is an enemy of your city.
His motto: 'Orlachmar me body, Urlach me soul.'
He is considered to be approximately 5% of your might.
He is not currently active in any family.
See HONOURS FULL WALLASE for a complete honours list
I'm in no way saying Wallase cannot fight. I am saying he's a far shot from the 3rd highest ranking combatant in Lusternia.
===============================================
Finally, it takes HARD WORK to reach demigod. The methods describe take nothing of the sort. How can you possibly compare 2 weeks of staying #1 combatant to bashing for 50+ weeks? As for the rolepoint method, it too requires nothing of the sort nor is it even feasible with the current rolepoints method.
===============================================
In sum, both methods are potentially 25-40x faster than the bashing options, give better abilities than phoenix (which isn't a bonus, it is a penalty as that's what costs 500,000 essence per death), etc.
I strongly object.

I like this idea, I think it's worth thinking out a bit more. The rolepoint route to demigod would certainly be a bit of an issue, but I'm not too worried about the suggested bias of the gods. More of a concern in my mind would be how the awarding of points would be decided. There's a lot of roleplay going on that isn't in the public sphere and it would be a shame, and breed resentment, for that to go unrewarded while the louder characters surge to demigod.
Forren2006-08-28 13:21:53
I don't like it either. I think the current system is fine. Boring, but fine.
Ialie2006-08-28 13:25:09
I wish there were different branches of Demigods to become that had different powers based on what you you wanted to be. If you wanted to be a healer, or still fight or... I don't know something else.
It would be nice if Demigods had more rp things too Like being able to understand and speak every language or something.

Neither idea is really practical. Other then that, no need to repeat what everyone else has said.
Unknown2006-08-28 14:18:24
I still think the suggestion that there should be different routes to attain demigod status is one worth thinking about.
Ashteru2006-08-28 14:20:03
Vernals are the RP-made gods.

I also like this idea of having the seven circles reflected in gaining Demigod status.
Another option, for the artist circle is to once you have maxed out your Bardic entry ranking, you become a demigod in that arena.
Player builders could gain demigod status for 6th circle. -this would be instead of getting paid in credits.
Perhaps guideing X amount of hours gives you either 1st or 7th circle (awakening?) - this would be instead of getting paid in credits.
etc etc.

Would probably have to be bardic and artisanal to be a worthy challenge.
Also, how would you lose demigodhood? Would the most tedious way of getting demigod (hunting for it) be the only one you could lose status?
I still don't really like the idea of alternate means of gaining demigod.
Unknown2006-08-28 17:05:07
It's good as it is. Demigods rise to their powers by, quoting the help file, sheer will and determination, and bashing is so repetetive and mind-numbing that it really requires determination to reach level 99 and 100.
Demigodhood for artisanals is definately a bad idea, for the same reason why an artist does not turn into a body-builder after creating a work of art. Different areas.
Demigodhood for RP - and who would judge which RP is worthy of this status and which is not? Bad idea.
Demigodhood for PvP - rankings are, as pointed out, a bad indication. If anything, we should either drastically increase XP gain for PvP (bad idea) or give people special "points" for PvPing, making them reach Titan or Demigod when they acquire enough (sort of pointless and abusable).
So either keep it as it is, or even better - remove Demigods altogether, introducing Vernals instead.

How do you possibly compare a piece of art that takes say 3-15 hours to create versus bashing for 50+ months.
Daganev2006-08-28 17:49:45
The issue is being a demigod, not becoming a body builder. How is Isune just as godly as Hajamin?
However, to get the top ranking of artisnal you have to win first place 7 times is it? Thats 7 RL months. Lusternia has not been open for 50 Months so how can you say thats how long it takes to become a demigod?
But maybe they have this planned or Vernal god instead of Demigod, however I don't remember the vernals having circles. And whats the point of having an Avatar of Lyreth not being good at arts, but being good at bashing?
