Aethership Problem

I've noticed now that whenever I'm flying around in aetherspace for more than ten minutes or so, Zmud will entirely lock up on me. It stops scrolling and no new text is displayed. When I try to click on File to close the window, it doesn't register that I clicked for a very long time. So after I finally get it to close and I restart, I'm usually dead but the window functions properly again. Is this something anyone else has had an issue with? How can I fix this?

I have never had this problem, and I use zMUD, and travel aetherspace extensively. I think it has something to do with your system going haywire? What version of zMUD are you using?

Shouldn't be having that sort of problem - I've flown for over an hour without a problem, and I'm pretty spammy when flying manually. (This was during the search for Cankermore).

Maybe some sort of software buffer is getting overloaded with stuff? Only a guess.

Oh my god, I occasionally have the same problem.

I couldn't for the life of me work out what was going on, I thought my pathfinder across aetherspace had sucked all the free memory out of my computer or something, but it happened when the system was active and inactive, and without any definable pattern.

Could there be a bug somewhere in aetherspace itself?

I find that closing zmud and restarting seems to work, and when I tried it with telnet I didn't get the same problem. And then over the last week or so it hasn't happened at all, even with zmud.

Edit: ...you weren't in Avaerin were you? unsure.gif

Edit edit: Hmm. Actually, that isn't quite what happens to me. No new text comes in, that's all... I can still close the window and input new commands that don't do anything. Nuts, it must be some bizarro problem with my computer. sad.gif

I had the same problem. it is what happens if you change your buffer length to be more then 1000 lines. Once it fills up those lines... for somereason it can't dump the buffer, causing it to go limpy. Ironically... cMud actually CAN do this... it is the only thing CMUD can do without breaking... heh. (It can happen with anything, Aetherships are just spammy enough to fill it up fast.) You could also increase the buffer length to like 5 billion, it willl never fill up, but aroun 250,000 or so, you start having serious lag issues....

Just set buffer to 1000 unless you are going to be fighting and want to record it.

And yes, this is what happens when you spend hours a day trying to break CMUD... and incidentatly zmud to...

No, this is what happened when we went up to see the dragons and then it happened again in the Rapture. I don't take Avaerin because Avaerin is too good for me a little bit. Its like taking a Rolls Royce to go drag racing.

Aha, I figured it was something to do with the buffer. I'll fix it and see how it goes. Thanks!

EDIT - I've spent some time in Aetherspace after changing the buffer and I've not had a problem since!
