Back to Common Grounds.

I'm talking about the one quest that starts off really simply, then has a puzzle involving a 9x9 grid. It was really cool, and the hardest puzzle of its type I have ever solved. I might have been ready to cry when I found killing the thing you need alive at the end actually resets all the work you've done, but that's not the point.

If people actually put effort into solving the quests - as opposed to using the cheats that make them easy to solve, but take away most of the sense of relief - then you can easily sink days worth of obsessive effort into any of them. And considering how many there are, if your personal happiness doesn't depend on the cheap decisions of others, then you can enjoy the quests here for quite possibly months. By which time you will have made more quests.

So: clap_1.gif

I first saw this and went ohmy.gif. I thought you were going to rant about how the quests were too hard and they needed to make them easier. I'm glad you enjoy them!

I can't stand most of the village honours quests. I'll take my handy dandy quest guide over those any day... although, even with a list of all the honours quests solutions, I'm still too lazy to do any of them. Meh.
Abethor2006-09-16 02:46:10
I also enjoy the honours quests, from the difficult ones to the harder ones. It really adds a unique element to the game and grants some appeal to those problem-solvers in the world. biggrin.gif

I'm sure the quests would be more enjoyable if I had a chance to actually do them. I remember the last time I tried that Carai Caroo quest, a certain former Seren now Celestian threatened to kill me if I didn't let him do it.

honestly? some of the quests are just annoying... Stewertsville and Acknor for instance, Paavik too. They require zero thought and reading and poking everything you can see in a room... and how are things hidden? by being written in white.

It's just time consuming.

But I am sure there are other, more interesting ones.

The Gray Moors quest is a lot of fun to figure out. I spent a good hour brainstorming with a sharp Glomdoring pupil (can't remember his name) and we got about half of it done, we think. Thanks Divine!

We're always looking for quest ideas! Generally, what you see are the limits of what we can code for quests, but if you can think of anything you'd realistically like to see, please feel free to make a suggestion.

I have really good ideas for a plot or two. smile.gif

Tho' for quests that are redoable, you'd have to add a few new areas to the game. wink.gif
Fain2006-09-17 01:53:45
As far as plots go... That's why the plots board exists!

For redoable quests, well, you can post your ideas to the plots board as well, but we definitely have a bunch of areas we'd like to release to come. The original call-for-quests that I made weren't specifically what the quests were ABOUT, but what the player has to do. If you haven't noticed, we've been trying to, as much as we can, shy away from 'take thing A to person B' quests (Carai Caroo, Cankermore, Dramube, Presidio, Cathedral), etc.

Any ideas of how to make more cool and original quests?

Something like a rubix cube would be fun and challenging.

No more puzzles... mreegh. I took one look at the Carai Caroo thing and decided I'd never be going back.

Sudoku isn't all THAT bad. The one time I was there and watching Ixion do it, at least, it was a VERY EASY puzzle.

If you're a dork like me, make a program to solve it happy.gif
Unknown2006-09-17 02:39:25
Ooh. And something like minesweeper!
Unknown2006-09-17 02:40:40
That's cheating. tongue.gif
Furien2006-09-17 02:42:49
Personally, I -loved- the Cathedral quest.

Even if I lost six censor.gif levels doing it. explode.gif

Otherwise, the Observatory and Pre-Cathedral puzzles were fun, if repetitive. I've discovered how to do all my quests on my own, which is half the fun of bein' an explorer. smile.gif
Acrune2006-09-17 02:43:39
Its only cheating if you get caught! And I never bothered to finish the program because I've never done the quest since I started it, so I'm technically not caught. happy.gif

I find Sudoku to be quite easy, actually. It's all logic and deduction. Try writing it all down on a piece of paper, rather than attempting it on the screen. If you can cross out stuff and write in possibilities in the squares the puzzles are much easier.
Shiri2006-09-17 05:00:48
The sudoku thing is easy, right up until Shamarah walks in and starts putting letters in at random because "it's no fun if you just use logic!" dry.gif
