I've always thought pinleg stopped curing entirely. Flacarealah and I were debating for like 15 minutes on the envoy channel whether you can sip during pinleg, with her going "Yes, you can, Shorlen is doing it!" and me going "No, you definitely can't". Turns out we were both right to some extent:
SIP is blocked by pinleg but DRINK is not.
Until such time as sip is fixed to work, I suggest everyone who uses sip normally switch their aliases to drink. Figured I'd post it here in case anyone was having the same problem as me.

There's a similar inconsistency for burrowing. You can drink underground, but can't sip.
Clise2006-09-18 02:00:28
so drink > sip in all cases then?
Everiine2006-09-18 02:03:26
Is there any difference between drink and sip?

Drink can be used even when pinlegged.
Everiine2006-09-18 02:06:11
Other than that?
Shamarah2006-09-18 02:07:41
Well, I've never heard of anything stopping drink but not sip, so unless I find something else I'm switching to drink.
Shorlen2006-09-18 02:12:40
It's the same as SAY Hello! not interrupting teleport/gateweave/etc, but 'Hello! interrupting it. Or TELL SHAMARAH Hi! not interrupting, yet SHAMARAH Hi! does.
There are special coded exceptions for these skills, where any input to the MUD gives a certain response, EXCEPT specific commands. Just because there are two commands that both do the same thing does not mean eveything that's coded to work specially for one command is coded to work specially for the other.

Hmmmm. Now to change everything to drink and remove all the checks for pinleg when trying to sip, only to have them change it so it blocks drink too.
Clise2006-09-18 02:16:33
Now the question is that, is pinleg SUPPOSE to stop sipping/drinking entirely? If so, someone might want to bug it.
Ixion2006-09-18 04:09:16
People are clueless about pinleg. CLUELESS.
People think that it's much stronger than it really is. You can most certainly cure in a pinleg, and prevent rather simply being locked by being pinlegged over and over again.
I even had to thump Tuek in the head because he didn't know.

odd, I never sip... Who came up with this sipping concept?
Unknown2006-09-18 05:42:47
Same way that I used to think souls couldn't talk at all. Only TELL SOMEONE SOMETHING works, and SOMEONE SOMETHING doesn't.
And I used to SIP because I always thought that DRINK meant that you emptied the entire vial...

Drinking from vials is much more manly than sipping.

That was my reasoning to, initially, though then it just became habit.

I seem to remember agreeing with your saying this exact phrase before, when the aforementioned burrowing thing came up. Drinking ftw.

Unless teleporting is supposed to stop you from SAYing in addition to ' ing, and unless gateweaving is supposed to stop you from TELLING in addition to sending tells with just their name, I'm sure it is NOT a bug.
Impales would be way overpowered if they stopped drinking from vials...

I've always used sip because it's shorter. Just quicker and easier to type, and I like how it sounds rather than drink. Pinleg still stops a ton of other things, and no, Ixion, we tested pinleg and I told you it wouldn't let me sip, so you didn't thump me about anything, I was right, there is no reason it should block one and not the other, it's a bug.

Just alias "sip" to "drink %1". There. All better. Don't even have to change your ways or your system. (Well, except to allow for sipping when pinlegged!)
Shorlen2006-09-18 14:20:22
As a note, just like with other forms of paralysis/entanglement, you cannot TOUCH MEDICINEBAG while pinlegged, so make sure your autosipper takes this into account!
While you're at it, make sure your autosipper takes it into accont that you can't touch bag while paralysed or entangled either
